I have been having a devil of a time getting a phone. There's another thread chronicling the debacle...

I was thinking recently of buying an unlocked cell phone and then getting a monthly plan.

I don't want a piece of crap phone, I want a decent phone that I can take with me from job to job, this whole turning in your phone and then waiting for the A-holes to give me the OK even after a year of residency ...

The whole cell phone thing here is retarded. I truly think it alienates foreigners.

My girlfriend told that unlocked phones are illegal in Korea though... any thoughts?

They don't use SIM cards here, so you'd be out of luck. Anyone can get a pre-pay phone...don't know why you're having such a problem!

I work with my in-family large cellphone store.

We sell cellphones on monthly / direct debit plans just the same as Korean nationals to visa holders, too.

You only need a bank book, ARC card, and price of cellphone to get a cellphone connection in your name and within an hour.
That's it.

The best deal is a new one because they come boxed with earphones for MP3's, usb cables, two batteries and other accesories for just 150.000 for a new CYON LG phone.
Second hand phones are somewhat scratched from just 30.000 but may not have MP3's. But many do have cameras and video facilities.

Applications fees are waived with new phones.
App. fees are 30.000 won for the second hand range.

SK and KTF phones not available as monthly plan. (Not without a hefty deposit.)
No hidden dealer charges and profitteering.
Not 450 won a minute as 'cardphones' but simply 15.000 month basic fee same as Korean citizens.

You may wish to meet me near Bucheon station and we can introduce you to a good selection of cellphones and work together through a purchase.
A/S is gauranteed. As an expat myself with working knowledge of the phones I will set you up with all the facilities to get your cellphone linked to your PC / laptop for uploading, downloading, movie making etc. Other merchants don't necessarily do this.

IF you would like help getting a monthly cell phone plan, with an inexpensive phone, with A/S and all care, please contact me by PM and I will help you.
The best deal for fellow teachers and ex pats.

Is this "Bucheon" sometimes referred to as "Bujeon" in Busan? I am in Busan.
