What are the Korean Laws and or Customs regarding hurting childern. I have noticed many broken fingers since the new school year started. Also My boss's son wrote an essay on how his father burns him and hits him. I know back in the states these monsters would be (and i beleive should be) thrown in jail(at least for a while) I understand i am not home, but If this is actully what going on SHAME ON KOREA.

Issues relating to parent punishing their OWN children? I've heard that most Korean stay away from it unless it's a serious life threatening, crippling injuries or death.
It seems that there is almost no limit as to how the children's parents can punish their own children. May be their is some kind of law, but no one would actually press any charges against those abuses unless, as I said, deals with serious injuries or death.
It's sad but true. |

Ah, what can you do? I just try to be a fair and decent teacher to offer a counter to rough treatment a few may have at home. I did an excercise with Korean six and seven ear olds where they drew a picture for each emotion, what makes me feel this way kind of thing. One little girl drew her daddy for both the scared and sad emotions. I taught that one a card trick to impress her friends, but it's just too common to do much about except to fight the good fight. |
