Interviewing with a company tomorrow for a position teaching conversational business. Are khakis and a buttondown shirt kosher for something like this?

Nope...not in Korea, not if you want the job.

Black /dark pants, light button down shirt and a tie at the minimum for the interview. If you had a sport coat or better yet a suit it would be a bonus and generally reflect well on your "professionalism".

If you really want the job, wear a suit or the closest thing you have to it. It would be difficult to overstate the importance of appearance, and foreigners tend to have a reputation for dressing sloppy (or casual, as we would say).

If there is no competition, khakis might be okay, but isn't it better to be overdressed than underdressed?

Shane,

You asked for opinions and they were given. You can either take them with a grain of salt or take them as they were intended....a heads up on how to procure a job in a professional state of dress....

If you want the job, regardless of whether it is fulltime, part time or just a one off gig always wear your smartest clothes.

Agreed. If you want the job, you wear a suit, whether it is for a teaching job or a job at the post office, or any other job. Just look professional.

Alternatively, a pink tutu and and bright green lycra leggings might help you stand out from the crowd so to speak and give you the competitive edge.
