That's right. The party's over in October, so stock up on wine and good beer now.

Other goodies which I'll miss:

Great selection of pasta and pasta sauce
Variety of items from Southeast Asia
Great selection of cheese
Real bagels (not those Paris Baguette tragedies)
Real Croissants (see: bagels)

Well, I've never seen the great selecion of cheese carrefour has....

The stores are changing over to a new brand, "Homeover"...nice name eh?
However, the new company has made an agreement that involves keeping all former employees and all vendors. The fact that vendors will remain the same leads to the possibility that some stock (such as taco kits and refried beans) will still be available.

Article in Korean Times said they hope to have the name change done BEFORE Chuseok! They got some work to do.

Homeover. Rolling Eyes Konglish at its finest! Wink

Reason they're leaving? Presumably unprofitability, but Carrefore always seems utterly rammed full of punters...

Not the one in Cheonan. It's always a ghost town. I love it. The only place you can go shopping on a Saturday afternoon without ajjummas ramming you in the ankles with their shopping carts.

I have to say this is ****** up that both the stores will be sold to Korean companies. I'm sure the first thing they will do is pull their western sections saying they aren't profitable.

No big deal...we never shop there anyways.

If they are not making money then they pull out. Such is life.

I thought the new name was "Homever". Like a play on "forever", or so they say. But it kind of resonates with "whatever", "however", "whenever"... conjunctions that don't point to decisive outcomes.

Yeah I'll need to run there and load up on coffee. Cheap, fine ground, good.

The one in Byeongjeom (near Suwon) is pretty quiet too... Razz
apparently it hasn't been there that long, either. I like going there sometimes even though I don't really live near it, but it's less than 10mins' walk from the subway station.

According to some of the previous posters, it seems that it's going to remain much the same, as opposed to being turned into a designer clothing store, which was what the newspapers were saying before was going to happen. Thank goodness for that. I really depend on that store for my grocery shopping.
