We went out to eat some K-food in K-town last night with some friends and they told me about this young K-couple that went on vacation somewhere in China. They're in a taxi, hubby gets out at their stop and as the wife is sliding over the seat to get out, taxi drives off with the wife. They find the wife a few days(?) later minus her eyes, organs etc. I ask my wife for a link and she slaps me, nice huh?
wow. Lost my appitite! This happens in China? I know you can sell your organs in Korea, yeah I saw lady vengance about the organ selling in Korea. But this was a little different. So then later my friend tells me that he was in China and heard a story where a guy was driving his car and had his window rolled down with his arm on the window rest. He was wearing a rolex. Someone chopped off his arm just for the rolex! Ok, I realize he could've been embellishing a little.
Interesting though...

Nice story, lots of visceral details.
That last part sounds suspiciously like the joke about the lawyer who got sideswiped while sitting at the wheel of his parked car. He sticks his head out the window to scream at a cop nearby, "Hey, look what happened to my Mercedes!" The cop comes over, wide-eyed, and says, "Buddy, you're worried about your car... -- Do you realize you've lost your left arm?" The lawyer: "My God! My Rolex!" |

Sounds like an urban legend, stimulated by the Koreans vast sense of xenophobia ... |

Well there is a grain of truth to it. The Chinese have executed those convicted of crimes against the state and then removed the organs. |

My friend was dating a Korean girl whose father was dying of liver cancer and he was trying to get a liver transplant from an executed chinese convict. But he couldn't get it and died. |

She said it was on a Korean womans website. I don't want to say it was Missy USA but it was one of them. Anyway, I figured you guys watch the news in Korea and you'd know if it really happened or not. |

Yep. Did you hear they eat babies in the PRC? Lots of kids (and adults, sadly) believe that one, too.

Still it would make a good thriller.
Man meets woman. They marry, go to China on honeymoon, but not before man insures wife for mucho dinero $$ - he pre-arranges the kidnapping and the selling of her organs and collects the insurance money back in the ROK. There is a final twist at the end like the story by Puskin.
We could call it.... Queen of Spades or something like that...after Alexander Pushkin's novel/story... |

I agree. This sounds like an urban legend. Not that Koreans won't eat it up. Most Koreans look down upon the Chinese (excepting Korean-Chinese of course). Predictable really. What's next? Those evil Chinese are eating dogs and cats and torturing bears to extract bile from their bladders. Oh wait... |

They do eat cats in China. In fact, eating Civit cats is widely believed to have been what started SARS. The cat eating in North America is very likely urban myth though. I agree with you on that. |

My point is that it's not as though the general white western populace is any less xenophobic towards the Chinese (or other Asians, if they indeed can tell the difference) than Koreans are.
Pathetic really.
