Hi all. Anyone have any advice about shipping items to SK? I'm expecting a delivery that unfortunately will be arriving a few days after I leave my home country. My family will ship it & ensure it, but I'm a little hesitant, given that it's some expensive computer equipment. When I was in Mexico I had at least one package go totally missing and I would hate for that to happen....what do you think? I've contacted the school where I'll be working, to see if they have any suggestions as well. They've been very helpful so far so I'm optimistic about getting support from them, just wanted to check with folks on here, too....

I believe you would be better carrying the gear in your luggage...
Or buying the computer gear in Korea...pretty reasonable prices...
Or get infomation on avoiding import taxes...I believe that if you can prove the gear is for educational purposes then the import tax is cancelled (don't quote me on that though)...

I have imported MP3 players twice from US, the first time I managed to avoid the tax (slipped past during the customs tea break)...second time I paid 25% of the items value... The next time I imported dive gear, the import tax was massive(fortunately, my Korean friend knew someone that knew someone and after hours of begging i.e. small bribe, avoided the hefty tax...

Not sure if this helps... but I do know that if the gear is new, then be prepared to pay that tax.

Finally, The box you send will always arrive in bent up, banged up, squashed condition, 95% of the time opened by customs and poked through.. Everyone knows this. So, again back to my first two pieces of advice.
