Is their a store in Seoul (in Korea) that sells fly fishing gear ????
I see Koreans on FTV fly fishing for trout and bass so they must buy this gear somewhere???? Any ideas?

I am not is seoul but I am certain that most fishing shops would outfit you with supplies. They must be around in Seoul cause here in the boonies, a village of around 20,000 there are three shops that sell the stuff.

good luck, fishing here is fun its best to try and hook up with Koreans to show the way.

One of the teachers at my public shool took me out to see some spots and it was a lot of fun, I go every couple weeks or so. Catch and release for me which they thought was pure insanity.

I'm out in the sticks of Gangwon-do loads of great streams for fishing, but EVERY single fishing shop only sells gear for beach fishing.

A teacher at my school brought it his new fly-fishing rod to show off yesterday. I could ask him where he got it, though I doubt it's anywhere near Seoul.

Wow, fellow fly fishers! I've checked www.cherrytrout.com and that was informative. I haven't managed to go fly fishing here (yet), I've no gear and no car. But I can dream, I suppose. I don't speak Korean so am pretty buggered. I was hoping there was a fly fishing store in Seoul (or somewhere) where I could buy gear. i've seen tons of fishing stores on the way up to gangwon-do.

the korean for "fishing tackle", i think, is 낚지 or 낚시. that's what i remember being on the stores/stands that i saw because i was like "dude, they sell octopus so close to a fishing area?!?" and then i corrected myself.

Just hire the guide I posted earlier. Take a bus to Gangwondo and he can probably pick you up at the station. I don't fly fish, but I've gone bass fishing with him a couple of times. If you hire a guide, you don't need equipment, will probably catch fish cause he knows the best spots and can get out for a whole weekend. As I recall his rates are reasonable and you can always bring along a buddy and split the cost. Support independent foreign businesspeople here and spend some of that teaching cash
Seriously, in your situation, it might be a good bet, and a chance to get out of the city during the beautiful fall season.
Inspired by this post I just went out and chased some bass, but came up empty. Still, great day to be out on the water.

Thanks for the tips. Any idea how much his rates are??? Nobody on a teacher's salary could afford a fishing guide in my country. They are expensive - but, ultimately, worth the money.

Ditto that, how much does he charge for a weekend? I'd be willing to meet up with someone and split the cost. I'd love to give it a go. I just emailed him for some more information, so Ill post it here when he replies, if anyone's interested.
