ARRRRRGG!!
I came home today to find my mo-in-law making Kim-chi in my apt. Not a big deal, right? Buttt, when I go to the washroom I find that she's been using it as a staging area for all of her work. There's pepper paste and powder everywhere. There're pieces of cabbage in all sorts of hard-to-reach places. Can't find a clean place to walk.
Sheesh!
This woman is a rock. I love and respect her a great deal, but we've clashed more than once on the issue of my 'anal-retentiveness' and her more rustic way of thinking.
Anyone else have problems with the in-laws that you would like to share. Not only that, but how do you deal with them?
Cheers,
TMT. |

FIL is having a Soju and Bosintang party tonight, so I'll post on that later maybe. Otherwise his late night "Drop-ins", totally tanked, annoy the shit out of me.
MIL is a brick.

What's wrong with telling her straight up; STOP! Unless it's HER house. If she is rude enough to take over your place then I'd certainly would have no qualms about being rude to her! Mo-in-law or not. Respect is a two way street. |

HOANG,
Are you married? Do you have parents-in-law nearby? What you suggest would be a dream to me, but it's just not possible.
Did I mention that she's a 'rock'? I meant that in the most all-encompassing sense of the word. She's one of those ajumas that's been hardened and weathered by all of life's bitter travails- that EVERYONE knows not to mess with.
I did once and I paid for it.
(what am i not doing? Everytime I quote someone, it appears as regular text, not in that nice white box) |

what you need to do is write the quote like this...
[quote="hellofaniceguy"] blah blah blah and make sure you end the quote in the way you have been...
edit - you can also click on the "quote" button on the users post that you wish to quote from and if you don't interfere with it, you shouldn't have any probs. |

I am in a similar situation. My parents in law have treated me like gold so far. We are here for one year. They have been very kind. They think it is a bit weird that I like to eat corn flakes and toast for breakfast but they have accepted it. Other than my mother in law referring to my underwear as panties they have not gotten under my skin too much. One time last week it was pretty late and my daughter was sleeping in the next room with the MIL. My wife and I were having some romantic time and my little girl wakes up and starts crying for mommy. My mother in law barged right in. Good thing it was dark. Man, I do not know the last time I moved so quickly. Since then my wife sorta hinted that she should knock. |

You're lucky.
Me and my MIL got along in such a fashion too, for a while. Then she moved in with us for a while after the baby came. Then the honeymoon ended. It's easy enough to be polite and respectful for a two or three hour visit, but when living together 24/7... |

Never turn your back on a head of cabbage...especially in the bathroom.
They breed, you know... |

Take heart she should only make the Kimchi once a year and probably will feel the same way about you messing up her lounge with christmas gift wrap (And cluttering up her refrigerator with butter, milk and cheese.)

Dear TMT,
Do what any Korean man would do in the same situation.
Run home to YOUR momma.
She is the only one who will make the kimchi right ...
