Wow. How many flags and cars did they burn? Maybe they shot a random novellist or movie producer to hammer their point home. |
While fundamentalist Islam is significantly worse and more dangerous than the Christian fundamentalism, the have shot abortion doctors and burned books. |
doctors?? Is that plural? Wow. So, they shot 2 doctors. Was that with water guns or paint ball guns? |
I made sure to point out that Christianity is not near as bad, but if you are trying to argue that Christianity has no fundamentalist problems at all, you live in a cave. How have you not heard of the abortion doctor (and staff) shootings (and murder) ??? |

Ok. 7 murders of hospital workers. Hardly a mass global uprising.
More people die under Islam every hour for various 'offences".
But i'll agree that Christianity has a small/negligible potential for "fundamentalist", fringe element problems. So does trainspotting. |

| If you choose to focus on what Christians protest then it proves that you have a double standard regarding free speech i.e. people are only free to say things you like. |
Oh no wait. I don't think anyone is saying anyone shouldn't be allowed to protest. Muslims, Christians, Animal Rights Activists, whatever. And there is a difference in your average Da Vinci Code protest and your Mohommed Cartoon protest -- a telling difference, but that's for a different thread.
But of course we should focus on the protests. For one, that's part of the reason they protest. And the same thing goes for our decrying the causes they protest (though not the protests themselves.) Decrying what these people are saying is part of the dialogue that they have to expect when they open their mouths.
As for the Christian (usually fundamentalist, but not always) protests, I love them for a few reasons. It lets me know what the idiots are up to (very important), it lets me know what companies to support (though I couldn't bring myself to see the Da Vinci Code movie after suffering through the book), and most importantly, I think their protests are, for them, counter-productive -- the more rational people see what these loons get upset over, the less support these loons will end up having.
So protest away, have at it. Freedom of speech is for all. Just don't cry foul when someone tells you you're an idiot for your TeleTubby picket line or when the Hell's Angels keep a buffer between you and a dead soldier's funeral. |

Here in Colorado Springs those idiots at Focus On The Family are busy trying to get a clause put into the state constitution banning gay marriage.
Forgive me if I'm wrong....but constitutions are used to enshrine rights and freedoms for everyone--not to take them away

Consider how muslims protest:
*Invasion of Iraq: Muslim youth group threatens to conduct hotel sweeps for foreigners and expell them from the country.
|
1. Eh, keyword: invasion. Are you really using this one as an example??
|
1. Eh? what the muslim group wanted to do was illegal innit, eh? |

well what country are you refering to? I assumed you meant muslim youth groups in iraq right? Assuming you are, then that's besides the point. That example isn't related to religion but a reaction to war.
Now if you are refering to another country outside iraq, then please provide more info. |

the hotel sweeps occured in Indonesia (Bandung) at the onset of the Iraq Invasion. Then again in Makassar, during the recent Isreali/ Lebanese conflict.
| Quote: |
About 50 university students grouped in the Makasssar chapter of the Muslim Students Association (HMI) on Wednesday (26/7/06) attempted to search several hotels, including Sahid Jaya Hotel and Imperial Arya Duta Hotel, for any American and Israeli guests.
Protest coordinator Andi Fajar said the Israeli bomb attacks, supported by supplies of American armaments, were hurting the worlds Muslims. Fellow protesters accused the US of doing nothing to put a stop the violence.
A minor scuffle broke out when police tried to stop the students from entering Sahid Jaya Hotel, which is owned by the family of Vice President Jusuf Kalla. The fracas ended when the hotels chief housekeeper, Hasrianto, agreed to meet with representatives of the students.
He promised them the hotel would not accept guests from the US and Israel as a gesture of solidarity for the Palestinian and Lebanese people suffering from the Israeli attacks.

and let me add the attacks on Playboy Indonesia's office by a radical Islamic group; Despite the fact that the magazine doesn't show ANY nudity, there are already local erotic magazines with the same content, and that pirated pornographic DVDs are sold everywhere, the Islamic Defenders Front protested the magazine as contrary to muslim values. They attacked the magazines office, throwing stones and seriously injuring a security guard and forcing the magazine to move its Headquarters to Bali ("We just couldn't control ourselves" the leader of the protest later said).
Please stand by: don't be surprised if there are raids by muslim gangs on bars in Jakarta during Ramadan which starts on Saturday |
