Do DVD's from North America play in Korean DVD players? This might seem like a stupid question. But I may have read something about this a few months back. I would like to bring some of my DVD's with me to Korea from Canada.

Western DVD behaviour is enough to freak out any Korean DVD player.

It depends on the dvd player.....some are region free and others you can force to be region free. Just google dvd hack or dvd region free or something like that and you'll find info on how to do it. I'm bringing a few burnt movies, but they're region free anyway..

what he said. I'd say most players can be hacked.

Go to Young-san electronics market in Seoul. Buy a region free DVD player for 50 000 - 100 000 won. Play DVD's from Canada, Korea, Europe ect... easy

If your DVD player is not region free, you can have it fixed to region free. All you have to do is take your DVD player to Young-san electronics market and switch a little region free chip in your DVD player for far less than that.

Yesasia sells a decent region-free player for $69 USD, free shipping. I've got one and it does the job.

my friend ordered some DVDs from amazon and they wouldn't play in her 200,000+ won LG dvd player... but when i popped them in my generic 50,000 won player, they worked...

I think all LG players can be hacked. Take a minute to look on the internet and you'll find it somewhere. I'm guessing the cheap off-brand players are more likely to be region-free because those little companies are less vulnerable to pressure from Hollywood.

Another alternative is if you have a lap top run an s-video or monster cable to your tv and play the dvd's of that... it's what I did in Mexico and it worked perfectly.

I mean... you lose a slight bit of resolution because you are, in effect, making a second generation and occaisonally the interlacing is affected... but there are compressor programs you can download that will fix that.

Or if you have any type of editing program (even most cheapy programs can do it) import the dvd, convert the codex burn and go. (It kills me my laptop won't carry Avid and I'm gonna have to switch to Final Cut.)

my new Panasonic dvd player is region free. Of course, it is from the states..but even while I lived in Russia we could watch western dvd's on their portable players...The vhs was PAL so that was different and those only played on a PAL machine.
