AIDS Is a Prime Cause for Deporting Foreigners
Over three out of five foreigners deported from South Korea for medical reasons were forced to leave after testing positive for HIV, which causes AIDS, a government report showed on Saturday.

What other medical reasons can they deport you for? It would be hard to catch ebola in Korea then get deported for that, for example. |

It would have been nice to have the other part of the article posted as well.

A total of 143 foreigners were deported between 2003 and the end of June this year after being found to have contracted an infectious disease, according to the report by the Ministry of Justice. |
143 foreigners in 3 1/2 years comes out to about 34 a year. It doesn't say if these are westerners or people from other Asian countries.
It sounds like a situation ripe for netcitizens to spread some more lies. |

I think it's a smart move by the South Korean government. |

I would be surprised if that included all foreigners given exit orders. The number just seem too low. |

It's all the foreigners deported for medical reasons. Not a common cause for deportation apparently, unless one happened to have AIDS, of course. |

Yeah, I think your right more people are probably deported for other reasons then medical.
It's bad conclusions like this that make it look like foreigners are the cause of AIDS in Korea. |

Why is it a good idea for the Korean government to deport people with a disease which isn't very contagious? What can an HIV/AIDS patient do to harm your health? I mean you aren't likely to be shooting needles or engage in risky sexual practices with them are you? |

If one is the kind of person who drinks too much and sleeps around with random people than he or she will be living very dangerously in any country.
People are responsible for their own actions, drunk or not. |

Sorry, but after being in Cambodia, I am sure I have met people who would knowingly and willingly do just that. Especially is they felt like they had nothing to lose, (because they will die soon). It's a sad fact. |

People will get deported if they work in hospitals or hospitality and they have hepatitis. If you work in this area you are mandatory tested twice a year. If you have it you are out of work straight away and on a plane soon.
Gwangjuboy you must be trolling stating that HIV is not very contagious. Nobody in there right mind would make a statement like that. |

Is this amateurish hour with bells on or what? Transmission of the disease is not very efficient unless you have unprotected anal sex or vaginal sex with penile warts. Even if you find out that you have had unprotected vaginal sex with an HIV positive woman as long as you don't have another STD (especially penile warts/ghonneria) your chances of catching the disease or much less than 1%. If you are shooting needles with an HIV person or have a botched blood transfusion you are in danger but what are the chances of those scenarios in Korea?. You probably think that you can get HIV from shaking hands with an HIV positive person. Sometimes people on this board amaze me. Come back to me when you have read a book or two. |

I've always wondered what the odds of getting HIV are if you have unprotected sex with an infected person. I mean, there's no number that I would really consider small enough to try it, but if you think about it, people take those kind of calculated risks all the time. Anyways, let's see a source for this "less than 1%" figure. |
