Just curious...what's the best supermarket in Korea (in general) in terms of price, quality and availability of Western products?

Hannam Supermarket/Dandy's.

The only place outside of a military base for refried beans (one out a whole list of products).

It may be the best but not the only with refried beans.

Saw them the other day in Bundang (ilovecookie)

It's a little like saying which type of fish can ride a bicycle the best-- a small-town Safeway at home has a better international food selection than all of them put together here. But it's getting better. When I first came in '03 I felt like Indiana Jones if I could find a can of beans in Busan.

Hannam and Carrefour are good, but pricey. Costco's great if you can use bulk amounts. Home Plus has been getting a wider international selection lately. Some of the street markets are suprisingly good, such as Gangton market in Nampo-Dong, Busan.

Yeah the Indiana Jones thing. Sometimes I find I have to visit three different grocery stores to get the things I need. "Okay olives are at this grocery store, and this one has yellow mustard. This one has vanilla yogurt. That one has inexpensive mozzarella cheese. That one has hot dog bun like buns."

All 'n' all it helps to eat Korean.

Where is this place? Is it near a subway station?

To answer the poll question, I'd have to say for variety & prices, it's Home Plus. I love Costco, but they don't have the same variety and I always wind up spending well over 100,000 when I go there.

The supermarket underneath the Shinsaegae in Express Bus Terminal and the Lotte Supermarkets throughout Seoul are good. They got Goldfish crackers.

I prefer Korean women, their thighs properly tenderized.

It's in the basement of the Volvo Building past Itaewon (just past the Hankangjin subway station). Look for the building that says "Volvo" in big blue letters at the top of it.

Like most things in Korea, there is no difference. Protectionist trade policies result in horrible selection at all stores in Korea.
