The White Stripes - In the Cold Cold Night - modern pop song with slow, easy lyrics. It's easy to make a dictation out of it.

She sings the words clearly in the song. The girls love it because it is a soft romantic song. She has �street cred� with the boys because Eminem sampled one of her songs and preformed with her in the past.

Try the Beatles 'Yesterday' for contrasting past tense and present tense.

Teach the song however, but get students to notice the change in tense from one line to the next. At the end, divide the room in half, with one side the past tense side, the other, the present tense side. Have them sing the song with each side only singing the lines with their tense.

What I'm really looking for here are not necessarily entertaining pop songs, but ones that are just naturally tailored to a lesson. Even in my own list, I'd only include the first two.

'If I had a million dollars' is a good suggestion, but I wonder if there are too many cultural references (K-car, Kraft dinner, the whole rant about sausages)?

The idea with 'Yesterday' was also a good idea. I can understand why the Beatles are so popular in East Asia.
