I would like to hear from people who have opened bank accounts in their own name on behalf of their official visa sponsoring employer to receive cash payments from schools. The visa sponsor takes possession of the bank book, atm card and decides on the pin number. Please pm in confidence with details.

Only the very stupid would do such a thing! Only the stupidest would admit to doing such a thing.

If you are stupid enough to open up an account for someone to launder money through then you deserve whatever comes your way.

Its a scam that was fairly commonplace about 2-3 years ago but as people got educated and word got around it seemed to disappear.

Thanks for the posts and the pm's... any information from someone who has actually done this - or is doing this - would be treated in the strictest confidence.

On the contrary. But a job worth doing, is worth doing well. A catalogue of complaints - even from several sources - without hard evidence of tax fraud might escape close legal scrutiny in a forum like Dave's - but certainly not in the print media. The more hard evidence you can give, the closer we will be to going to press.

Armed only with anecdotal evidence we can make the same assumption, there is a high probably of illegal activity. Yes, we have alluded to this practice in some articles. Unfortunately, despite the claims, we have so far been unable to come up with documented proof which will allow us to name names.

Why don't you do an expose on the scores of hagwon owners that deduct "taxes" from their foreign teachers' paychecks and then pocket the money?

Why must you name names? I would think exposing the actual scam itself more of a service than outing the scammers. Any scam outfit can change their name, but if the scam itself is revealed to everyone, then the scammers (all of them, even the unnamed ones) have no fish to reel in.
