|
|
200 Koreans were surveyed on their attitudes to dating foreigners. Interesting result. doesn't give a M/F breakdown of respondents though.
Going Out With Foreigners?
Kim Kyeong-hee Reporter
QUICK QUERY
Do you prefer to go out with foreigners or ever want to date them?
Would never date them 52
Would date them once just for an experience134
Prefer foreigners to Koreans 14
Few Korean women were known to have been involved in a party with foreign tutors. What do you think is the reason?
Because they can learn foreign language from them 12
Because they think foreigners are better looking than Koreans 38
Because they think foreingers are more open-minded 34
Because they have a yearning for foreigners 86
Don't know 30

| My girlfriend said she used to think she wouldn't want to date a foreigner. |

Nothing surprising here.
From my own perspective: I think many New Zealanders have similar attitudes toward dating 'foreign' Asians (not Asian New Zealanders). I.e: experimentation is fine, but settle down with a 'real' Western person after all is said and done...

My wife has said the same thing. I have to wonder just how accurate a survey like this is as well. A sample of 200, wow...that's huge! |

I'm sure the naysayers would change their tune if a Brad Pitt or Heidi Klum type said,
"Hey, wanna get some coffee or something?"

Yet another fascinating sociological study based on a "significant" sample of 50 yonsei students. |

According to what I hear recently a good 80% of male westerners are "brad pitt" types (the others being bruce willis). But let's not get started on that. |

But look at this picture that comes with the article!
Behold the foreign man, virile beast with golden locks!
It looks clipart from the 1992 version of WordPerfect. The sexy version. |

| Yes, that picture is amazingly just like how I look. My wife loves to run her hands through my long, flowing locks. She especially loves to gaze up at me and brush against my hard, muscled body. |

| Not a lot of choices in the survey, were there? I like how the middle option was "just for the experience". Anything else apparently makes you either a bloodline-defender or a traitor. No room for "if the opportunity came along and I liked the guy/gal..." |

I was once stopped in front of the COEX and asked to do a survey by a group of university students. Thinking I'd give them a hand and agreed to do it. The survey happened to be about 'foreign perceptions of Korean men and women'.
The questions were so overloaded and poorly written it really made me feel uncomfortable doing the survey, but since I agreed to do it, I did it anyways. It made me feel dirty and violated.
I will never do another survey again in Korea. |

| I never planned on getting hitched to a Korean women. What's the big deal? If you meet somebody and hit it off, cool. If you don't, cool. |
