I have a friend comming in from Hong Kong and they want to try Korean food. Since we are on a budget I would like to take him to one of those 5000 won buffets. Anyone know where there is one in Seoul, perferably close to Kangnam? |

Ugh! Wouldn't something like decent kalbi and panchan be better? At a 5000 won buffet (if you can even find one in Kangnam) it'll just be lots of poor quality food. That's not what friends do for friends. |

Only place I know that is of Korean Buffet style would be Carne Station in Samseong station or Yeoksam.. one in HOngdae. They're 20 bucks a pop.. all you can eat/drink hours are limited 4-10:30 dinner hours |

its too bad about the limited budget. 'Platinum', located right beside Gangnam stn, has a killer buffet from (4:30pm-10pm), and microbrewery. some of the best beer ive had since ive been in Seoul, and an excellent selection to boot. unfortunately its 28K or 29K won i think. |

"one of those" 5000 won buffets? I've never seen one in Seoul. But I'd like to know about it. |

Is this the Andrew he speaks of? |

I haven't seen a buffet like that, but it doesn't sound very appetizing. At Sos(h)im (sp?) in Insadong you can get a nice Korean meal for 7,000 won (unless they've raised their prices). It's at the end of Insadong towards Anguk Station, right next to the convenience store (which used to be LG, but I don't know what they're calling it these days). |

A chum of mine uses one - almost daily - near Yangjae station: take exit 3 ... 2 minutes, same side: seems to be called "Beer & girls", fret not, it's a beer hof, not a Klingon bar!
From exit 3, if you reach TGIF, you've gone too far: halfway back to the starion u should see it. He tells me the price is 3,900 and the selection is good and includes POTATOES. |

You are expecting someone from foreign country and think about treating him to 5,000 won dinner? Ouch....
That would be like me going to the State for the first time and my friend treating me a hot dog.
I assume you are new to Korea but I don't think there is any 5,000 won buffet in Korea. The cheapest buffet i have been to was 17,500 won (which was exellent by the way) to one that cost 70,000 won per person (which ironically was the worst)
I personally believe that you misunderstood someone. Traditional Korean Buffett can be outrageously expensive for they serve something that you will not likely find in any regular restaurant.

Believe it or not, I found such a place (5000 won buffet) in Jamsil.
Not sure if it is still there (didn't see anybody when I was there though that was around 2pm), but they did have a modest selection of food though you had to pay for flavoured drinks. |
