| I think this thread is silly. Unless "dude" is actually banging on your door, suck it up. 8am is early for you, and late for many more people. You have, " noisy neighbors and children screaming at the top of their lungs every morning.", so it's not like he's disturbing your tranquility. Sure, go ahead, splash water on him, shout in his face, expose yourself to him, shoot him with a paint gun, follow him home and harass him there, or call the police. The only person who gets in trouble will likely be you. |

| I think you should stalk him to find out where he lives. After you find his house, at about 3 am, walk through the hallway and past his windows yelling, "English lessons! 50,000 won per hour!" When he complains, tell him it's for your business. Or you could just record your voice and play it over and over from a Bongo truck sitting outside his apt. |
Now I like that one. If you find out where his house is, I'll join you. |

| If he was unlocking your door, and walking through your apartment, kick his sorry butt out the window, the higher the better. But it sounds like he's in a common space, and unless as an owner (50% at that), you have some jurisdiction over what happens in a hallway shared by 19 other apartments, (each floor has a walkway that leads to about 10 apartments each way.) then I think your're out of luck |
Precisely.
As for getting hostile on the guy that will accomplish nothing. He is earning a living and it is a mild annoyance to you. I assume this is annoying only in the summer months?
Ask the landlord about this. Since you own your appartment you could talk with the building owner about the dry cleaning guy..perhaps some arrangement can be made that way?
Or..buy ear plugs! |

douse the area around your apartment liberally with axle grease and banana peels tonight.
if he's an old guy, he'll probably break a hip and die. |

You know, I think some progress has been made in Korean society over noise pollution. In Daegu, I constantly heard the sound of annoying "Veggie trucks" or even more annoyingly, on Sunday mornings, the 7:00Am Tofu delivery person who would ring some bell and shout "Come get your Tofu" in Korean.
But here in Sanbon I haven't yet heard any of these annoying veggie-mobiles, loudspeakers, or bell-ringers. Maybe it's just that I've been lucky so far, but could it be that this type of selling is becoming illegal? |

Nope, it's just you: I'm in Daegu and the veggie trucks still go at all hours of the day. I live in Hwawon (=Daegok-dong, =sticks), though, which means that it's mostly nice and quiet. |

by invading my neighborhood? by playing inane rhythmic, chanting horse-shit on speakers? this morning it was "BANANA-BANANA-BANANA-BANANA" FOR 20 MINUTES.
i understand that these are poor-ish farmers. however nobody in their right mind would think they deserve any special sympathy. the speaker, the invasion of privacy... it's just savage behavior.
even as a foreign national living in another country, i have a right to the protection under the law that states that fruit trucks/loudspeakers etc. are ILLEGAL. they gave me a visa, i deserve rights. i may not get them, but i am allowed to criticize.
i'm trying to earn a living too. i want to be chipper to teach these little mewling rats how to make korea globally competitive with their high english skills. i deserve a little peace and quiet. |

| You can always complain at the neighborhood meeting(반상회). But I think unless the majority of the residents feel the same way you do, they will simply shrug it off. If this laundryman's daily visit is an absolute pain, you can find a lawer and litigate. I recommend you to record his noise level before acting. Just for the record, current regulation limit is less than 70Db in residential areas for the morning hours. Good luck. |

Wow, 70db?? How did you get that information, indiercj?
Look at this handy comparison chart I found:
0-Threshold of hearing
10-rustle of leaves, a quiet whisper
20-average whisper
20-50-quiet conversation
40-45-hotel, theater between performances
50-65-loud conversation
65-70-traffic on a busy street
65-90-train
75-80-factory noise( light/medium work)
90-heavy traffic
90-100-thunder
110-140-jet aircraft at takeoff
130-threshold of pain
140-190-space rocket on takeoff
Unless the laundry guy is as loud as a train, you may be out of luck, legally. |

Homer has bent over backwards so far to justify the actions of some ignorant Koreans that he has his head firmly stuck in his @ss. Blaming the victim is always cool. I don't think anyone was seriously advocating violence really.
Have you never heard of noise laws Homer? Mind you, this is Korea. The loudest country on earth I think. Anyway, hoping for Karma where a man just like this one shows up near Homer's residence and people "turn a deaf ear" to his whining. |
