A friend of mine was wondering why the job market seems slow. I remembered that this time of year is usually a slow for ESL jobs...can anyone remind me why this is? And when do things pick up again?

It is slow right now. Teachers will see the improve starting in Mid October - November. And then you will start seeing the huge rush in December for Jan/Feb/March starts.
Hagwan years start in Feb/March. Right now is mid session. They do hire all year round so I have no idea why Sept/Oct is always slow.

Yup. Schools more concerned with teaching the kids they have rather than the teachers they'll be needing in a few weeks. Remember, this is the land of last-second planning!

No offense, but is your friend keeping statistics or just bummed that he hasn't landed any interviews for jobs?

There are always tremendous job postings for teacher.
