I want you to name one artist you dig that is somewhat obscure or at least not too well-known. Try to make it someone who we can actually find mp3s of on the Internet and not some bullshit local band that 3 people have heard of, or else it's kinda useless. You know what I mean. I'm trying to find some good music.

My artist: Four Tet

Quote:
Four Tet is the name used by Kieran Hebden for his electronic music-oriented solo efforts to differentiate from his work with post-rock band Fridge.

Four Tet is highly respected in many parts of Europe (most notably in Hebden's native Britain) as an original and talented experimental electronic artist, but remains relatively unknown in the United States. Hebden's solo work typically incorporates samples lifted from various sources including hip-hop, electronica, techno, jazz, and folk mixed with his own guitar playing. Four Tet shares some stylistic similarities with other musicians, such as Prefuse 73, who use computer editing techniques that give the music a staccato, cut-up feel. Hebden's music is notable for its rich, organic sounds and harmonious melodies as well as for eschewing the traditional pop-song format in favor of a more abstract approach.

Okay well there's a tribute album to him by the spectacular band known as Rachels. It's aces, of course.

I meant music, though, particularly.

American post punk group Mission of Burma titled two songs after the artist: 1979's "Max Ernst", and 2004's "Max Ernst's Dream". Ernst's work has also been featured on the merchandise of American genre-bending rock group, The Mars Volta.

Qin, might you change "Artist" to "Musician" or "Musical Group" in your thread title?

This is the smoothest get back on track-ing I have ever seen here.

I love Four tet!! Kieran is someone who I deeply respect and draw inspiration from. My other choice would have to be Madlib, who under many various aka's has managed to become the modern day jazz experimentalist with a raw, digital sound. I love this man's stuff and respect him for actually being able to play many instruments in a very capable manner despite his penchant for ripping jazz and funk samples from the olden days of the best New Orleans has to offer. Prefuse 73 is by far my favorite producer, though. Uprock Narratives and One Word Extinguisher are classics to me.

I will do no such thing. The context of my request for mp3 downloadability should suffice, no? But I will, since we are on the topic of musical groups dedicating titles to dead artists, drop this little tidbit:

the single best album I ever experienced while on hallucinagenic drugs was entitled Man Ray. I bought it for $2 out of the used bin only because of the title. I listened to it once. It was surreal.
