We were issued that to read in form one (grade 5?). The next day it was taken off us again - a parent had found a swear word and complained. I can't remember what book we ended up reading instead, but I still remember that 'The Chocolate War' contains a bad word.

Bought it here and read it. It was a good read. Definitely a good book for high school age students, not because of language, but because of the plot deals with some of what they deal with.

What kind of school library would have Lolita in the first place?

(the list is of the most challenged books in US school libraries).

Here's what that list says to me. A certain percentage of idiots will be offended by anything. The more popular a book is, the larger the number of people who will be offended by it. I mean, c'mon. James and the Giant Peach? WTF?

I'd be willing to bet that there's a connection between your filthy potty mouth and those seven little anti-bibles you managed to get your greasy little hands on as a child.

My count is 11.

Oh I thought it was a list of banned books. I guess the title, "banned books", threw me off.

9 of the list were included in my schooling cirriculum.

James and the Giant Peach? What's wrong with THAT one? I've read it and I just can't think of what the problem is?

Sorry Q. "A list of 25 books considered so obscene by some parents that they decided to file a protest with their local school library" didn't fit in the subject line. Wink
