I've been following the posts on this site for a long time...but I still don't get it, how is a first time teacher supposed to know if they are getting themselves into a shady deal or not?? All the jobs posted on this site are through recruiters, so I apply and I get many offers, all of which look exactly the same on paper, same salary same benefits, maybe a different section of town, but they all look the same...so I ask for a current teacher's email, I get a few questions answered, maybe they have nice things to say, but maybe I also see the same school on a black/gray list...so who do you believe?? So I read the contract, they all seem the same, but who cares whats in it, seems like a lot of hagwons just do whatever they want anyways from reading some of the posts Ive seen on this site....so how do I get a job at a good school? How do I really know what I am getting myself into....or is that the secret, that you really don't know until you're already in it???

Didn't have a clue myself. But I also knew that things could be bad in Korea. I just hoped they wouldn't be bad for me. I was wrong. But, meh, other people have it worse than I do. I think it's just a matter of what you're willing to put up with and how long.

Equal parts divine intervention and luck!

Just use your head. If you ask some advice from current foreigners and that guy is leaving...he can't be trusted. He's probably suckering someone into working there so he can get a LOR.

If the place has had foreigners there for a long time (multiple renewals) then it's probably a good place. If all the previous foreigners have bailed...then the place sucks. If the norm at the 'school' is one year....next foreigner. Then it's probably a so-so job.

Try to get a job with some public school. That way you only have to wory about half the B.S.

Hell if you want a decent job PM me. Have a C.V. and resume ready.

Why bother coming here when there's plenty of good companies like Halliburton or Dyncorp to work for. Myself, I'm off to Iraq this winter...Very Happy
