Hey ,im currently travelling through SE Asia on my way to Korea and was wondering wether it would be better to arrange a job for arrival through a recruiter or to pay for my own flight in and obtain 30 day visa and then go hunting while there? I'm kinda confused about the whole visa run thing to obtain a work visa ,and how im meant to get my degree niotorized outside the country when they have no embassies . I know there's alot of q's ,but would really appreciate any responses. |

Most would agree I'm sure, it's better to be here first, to visit schools, or at least have it easier to talk on the phone, for finding a job.
How long does it take? That depends on several things. It could be just a few days. It could be a few weeks. If you find something you like, go for it. There is usually risk involved even if all looks good up front. |

This year was quickest ever for me.
Time from sending my 1st email whilst sitting in a coffee shop in Insadong, to having interview to current job:
48 hours.
Not bad. Total time from landing to signing contract was like 2 weeks (took the first few days off to get over jet lag, then took a few days umming and erring over contract).
Bear in mind I teach adults - it's a much less competitive market than kiddies (less jobs available BUT they are desperate for teachers). |
