Anyone have a good activity or role play they'd like to share?

I sketched out many items (basic pictures on paper) of different high end to low end products.
You divide the products so each has a value, say 5$, 10$, 15$. Each st gets a same amount of high end and low end products. They each get Monopoly-like cash equaling the value of their products.
EG:
St A: DVD (15$ value), Lego set, Paint set ($10 each), crayons, scissors($5 each) + cash $45
St B: Washing machine (15), Barbie doll, tool set (10 each), pen, desk lamp (5 each) + $45

(These are not real values of course. Likewise you can't buy an apartment on Mayfair for 400 pounds.)

Then they display their products on the table face up (this is their shop) and go around and haggle buy and sell with each other for 15 minutes using target language.
Call an end to it. Already have all the products categorised and listed on the board and while getting each St to call out their products in their shop cross each off. Add up the value of their products. Then add their cash. Whoever has the most value (combination of products + cash) in their shop is the Best Haggler.

I call the game "Garage Sale."

Price is Right works great!

You can make a powerpoint with pics of items. Tell them they are from the local emart. They guess the suggested retail price and the closest without going over gets a stab at the next slide , a question related to shopping vocabulary.

Have a bag of cash handy in denominations up to 100. (play money of course Smile) Getting both questions means two draws from the bag and then all the other students scream, how much is it!

Works great. Put the music on , the theme song , into the powerpoint.

This rocks.

If you need an example, go to my website and click on powerpoints. You'll find it there I think, just uploading lots of games/materials still but I do think I've uploaded it. If you make a better one, share it!!!
