What's it like to live in Bucheon? Thinking of taking a job offer there... |

depends on the area of bucheon. Near seongnae station (jung dong, sang dong) is really nice. They have a lot of supermarkets and train stations. Plus a lot of supermarkets, resturants, movie theatre, etc.
However there are some older parts that aren't so nice. |

Bucheon is a bedroom community of Seoul. It has about
a billion resaurants and bars. (all clones of one another and
incredibly boring) Yes, the shopping is good, though. Your
best bet on a Friday is to come to "Rock Bar" in Bupyong.
Or if you want to have real fun make the trip to Seoul and
share a taxi back. Bucheon also has a nice new park. Also
if you want to buy an apartment there the property values
are always going up. My friend made 50,000,000 won in the
last two years with the apartment he bought. Probably the
best thing there are the privates. Bucheoners are rich. Charge
60,000/hour for classes of 3 or more. 50,000/hour for classes
of 1 or 2. |

There seem to be a lot of privates around. Not many foreigners to compete with.
Also, yes the bars are all clones, but that goes for Seoul too. Actually, all of Korea. Cost of living is pretty low here. |

Coincidentally enough, the topic of Bucheon cropped up in an interesting conversation at the party last night. Two Western guests. Fellas. Been good buddies in Korea for years. One of them now lives in Bucheon, the other still in Seoul I think.
Marcus: You've really gotta come down some time and see my new place [in Bucheon].
Thomas: I know. I'll try again, but she just went crazy last time.
Guru (stumbling into the convo): Hmm? Who went crazy? What do you mean you'll "try" to visit Marcus?
Marcus: His [Korean] girlfriend. She won't let him come to Bucheon.
Guru: Whaaa?
Thomas: I'm serious. She threatened to end our relationship if I went last time.
Guru: Forgodsake, why? She just doesn't trust you?
Thomas: No, Guru. You don't really know much about Bucheon, do you?
Guru: Well, I know where it is, I've been there, I know they have a few big outlet stores, cinemas...
Marcus: No, man. You're a Seoul bumpkin. It's anma, anma, noraebang, anma, dallanjujom, love hotel, room salon, anma, hagwon, anma, sauna, noraebang, anma, anma... and some places to eat.
Guru: So it's the Miari of suburban Incheon.
Marcus: Aw *beep*, Guru, it's much bigger than Miari.
Thomas: And every Korean knows that. Especially wives. And girlfriends.
Guru: One learns something new every day. Can I freshen your drink, Thomas?
This is a gross misrepresentation of Bucheon? This little exchange tells us more about how some Westerners are p-whipped by Koreans than it does about Bucheon, yes? I'd like to think so. |

It's short for 안마 시술소 -- massage parlour. |
