How many times a day are you told you're beautiful? Four people in the past two days have blurted this out to me in broken English , normally from taxi drivers and sales people (all men) I would be flattered if I weren't in Korea because I know it's only because I'm white so I don't really take it seriously. I also ocassionally get money handed to me on the street. Last week, a drunk man handed me 1000w and refused to take it back. Again, I hear this is fairly common behaviour and I'm sure it's happened to many of you.

So out of curiosity, how often are you told you're beautiful?

Money? Weird. Are you by any chance sitting on the sidewalk when this happens? Wearing a potato sack?

To answer your question, I guess I get told I'm beautiful about two or three times a week, I guess. Sometimes it's a taxi driver or a random guy on the street, giving me the up-and-down-eye and a thumbs up with the word "Gooooood!" Sometimes it's a student, or a co-worker, or a clerk at the shop (last time it was while I was buying pomegranate juice, because of the little song in the ad regarding 민여.) Come to think of it, last week, a girl at a party introduced me to her friend (both lovely Koreans, fluent in English.) She said "My friend likes you. She thinks you're pretty". The friend explained: "I'm not a lesbian; I just like pretty girls." (?) I don't take it too seriously, but it's always nice to hear.[/list]

Yeah, the money kind of freaked me out a little bit. I was coming out of a Karoke bar at 1:00 at night, when a drunk man in front of me who kept turning around to stare, took out his wallet with what I thought would be a business card and handed me two 1000w. He refused to take it back so I kept it. It also happened during my first week in Korea.

Compliments? Way too often. It makes me feel uncomfortable. Especially because I think I look like a freak next to the Koreans.

I have one student who tells me on a daily basis.

When I go out with Letty, they say Letty is like a doll, then they say that it's not surprising considering mummy is also very beautiful....... Embarassed

It happened just now, when I finished shaving. Will probably happen again every time I have a wee today. Actually, the sun is shining in through the window and I can kind of see my reflection in the monitor screen..."Hey, handsome. How's tricks? You have beautiful eyes. Growl.."

Hey froggie, howse about, in ten years, if I don't have kids and you don't have kids, we fry one up? I think we should do the world the favor of unleashing a kid with your smile and my eyes on it and watching a war over something Trojanly sensible for once. You in?

I've received quite a few positive comments ("Oh, you're so handsome!") regarding my looks since coming to Korea from both genders. This just doesn't happen back home in N.A. I think it's more common for a girl to be complimented, especially if she keeps herself in good physical condition, It's a male society over here and Korean men aren't as conservative as the women when it comes to expressing themselves.

I get it on a regular basis because of my goatee, it seems. A couple drunk Korean girls, and many sober Korean guys. I was coming out of a store once, and a Korean guy on the street made a chin-stroking gesture and in a deep, Tonto-like voice, said "You. Handsome boy."

I've gathered that in Korea, telling someone they are attractive isn't seen any differently than telling someone you like their shoes or they have a cool backpack.
