I've been checking the boards since I first considered coming over 3 years ago, and the state of the current affairs board is abysmal.
When I first started to check the board way back when, there was intelligent discussion in 90-95% of the threads. Posts were made that had some semblance of intelligence to them, but sadly that is no longer the case.
There are examples of this every day, often multiple times a day. The fact that the 'list of scientist challening darwin...' thread has grown to however many pages it currently stands is case in point.
It goes beyond the topics, but to the way things are discussed. Many complain about attacks on the US/Americans, and the 'pro-terrorist' positions they feel some are taking on the board. They inturn post anti-islamic posts, because, you know, that will solve the problems they percieve.
Perhaps the biggest problem is that when proof is asked for, rather than academic, reviewed journal articles, links to main stream media sources etc being cited, we get links to blogs and fringe/niche websites.
This is a post lamenting the state of the board, nothing more, nothing less. |

| Man, you are such a terrorist loving lefty moonbat. I mean how can you say our rantings and ravings about the evils of Islam are ignorant, it's true, only evil people follow that faith. And we all know that the only people who hold our salvation are the members of Jesus' own party the Republicans. If you are not going help defend god and his soldiers of truth and righteousness then just shut up and go home. Cause we all know that right wing ESL teachers aren't just losers who can't get laid or work at home, they are the moral majority, spreading the word of our lord and saviour Jesus W. Bush! |

I am glad that satire still flickers in some semblance or another.....seems many on this board, have little gift for language, metaphor or nuance...

Oh do grow up Gopher. My post was made in lighthearted jest. There is a well known saying: "Those who live in glass houses should not throw stones."
You are one of the worst offenders on this board! Have a little taste of your own medicine matey. I think it's been in really poor taste the way you've labelled ELF Trainer nasty names like "BLT No Brainer" - not once or twice, but with nearly every reference you make to him. I'm surprised you weren't kicked off months ago for that. No wonder he is annoyed with you having to put up with childish crap like that. Certainly you were the first to start labelling me with your handy little repetitive fistful of adjectives, I didn't go out of my way to start harranging you - you should know by now that I heartily disapprove of pre-emptive strikes!  In the past, I've tried to use humour to temper your 'hounding' of me and all your adolescent antics - but perhaps I was too subtle and you percieve everyone else to be as serious and pompous as yourself. Get over yourself man, relax and have fun for buggar's sake! It's just a message board!! It's supposed to be a casual past-time!
I was poking lighthearted fun at both Junior and Joo, neither of whom I have anything against, despite their very different perspectives. They've both shown they had a sense of humour in the past, and I'm certain they wouldn't have burst into tears at what I wrote, or I wouldn't have done it.
In your case I was mirroring quite faithfully the language you frequently throw at me. Can you not see yourself?

The old days were always better, right?
By saying the level of intelligence of daves has decreased...you're basically saying that the calibre of esl teachers in k. has gone down in the past 10 years that you've been here.
I doubt thats the case.
Now there are more teachers and the jobs have improved. There are more people posting here. By the law of probabilities, the discussion will be better with more contributors.
To test this theory out, does anyone have an archive link to a debate on here years ago? |
