Hi, does anyone know where I can find the "Assimil" series book for learning Korean? I went to the big big bookstore in Seoul and they didn't have it, but I think I've seen it before somewhere else. Or maybe ideas for another book+ CDs with lots of good, practical listening material. I just started learning Korean so I can't just watch Korean TV yet, and I don't have a computer (yet... no money) so it's not practical for me to use the web sites. I have some good books but I think I need more listening practice. thanks for any ideas. |

Of the four foreign language skills (speaking, listening, reading, writing), listening is my weakest.
I have never heard of the Asimil series.
What is it and what is special about it?
If it can really help my listening skills, I'm interested too. |

Assimil is a French language learning series, it's great, I used it to learn French and I have friends who've used it for other langauges, they have explanations in English (or French or Spanish) and the conversation in the target language. It's focused on listening more (really practical conversational language) than grammar, so it's good to go along with a grammar book. I saw it for Korean in France once, so I thought at least I'd be able to find it in French to Korean here. But actually I just looked at the web site (http://www.assimil.com/), and they didn't have it in Korean, so maybe it's out of print or something. Anyone have any other ideas for good listening books and CDs? |
