Inter-Palestinian Fighting Ramps Up

October 3, 2006 6:00 a.m. EST

Ryan R. Jones - All Headline News Middle East Correspondent

Jerusalem, Israel (AHN) - At least 12 people have been killed and more than 120 others wounded in three days of deadly clashes between the ruling Hamas movement and Palestinian Authority (P.A.) Chairman Mahmoud Abbas' Fatah faction.

Tensions reached a new level Tuesday when Fatah's Al Aqsa Martyrs' Brigade published leaflets threatening to capture and execute top Hamas leaders, including P.A. Interior Minister Saed Siam and Damascus-based Hamas leader Khaled Mashal.

The fighting began on Sunday when members of Hamas' special government security force opened fire on armed Abbas-aligned P.A. policemen protesting in Gaza over not being paid since Hamas took power in March.

The violence quickly escalated in Gaza, paralyzing the volatile coastal strip, before spreading to the West Bank.

On Sunday, Fatah activists attempted to set fire to the Palestinian cabinet building in Ramallah.

Abbas has repeatedly appealed to both sides to calm the situation, and has warned against crossing the line into full-scale civil war.

A Western-imposed economic embargo has made it nearly impossible for Hamas to pay the P.A.'s 165,000 employees, more than one-third of whom belong to the security forces. The U.S. and many European nations say the sanctions will remain in place until Hamas recognizes Israel's right to exist and renounces terrorist violence.

I love this because it shows once and for all how little other Arab countries care about the Palestinian people and their plight. They like them better as a propaganda tool against Israel. They're surrounded by oil-rich nations, but none of them will lend a hand. They'd rather let them implode and blame it on the U.S. and Israel. It's brilliant.

I'm sure the EU will bail them out with more money though, wether they officially recognise Israel or not. Rolling Eyes

I love watching those psychos duking it out on CNN. More casualties, less problems.

It reminds me of old wild wild west western shows. Gun slingling muslim bandits flashing and shooting their AK-47's at anything and everything that moves.

The only thing that disappoints me is that they don't have bigger guns to cause more damages and casualties.

That's so cool though~~~~~ Cool

Hey, if you have evidence that proves otherwise, feel free to provide it.
