The correct answer is "You don't want a vespa in Korea." In fact you don't really want any sort of nice bike in Korea. It's going to be scratched, kicked, possibly stolen, and most likely laid down a few times (or any combination of the above). Sound like a nice way to treat a vintage bike???

That makes no difference. 99% of the nastiness will happen when your bike is parked at Costco.

As for the underground parking. I have that, too. Just last week some assmunch knocked over the bike that was next to mine and scratched the side real good.

Actually, that's a really good point, I hadn't thought of that. It's not so bad where we are (in a very small town, more of a village) but certainly worth thinking about. It would be a shame to wreck a vintage bike; I didn't realise it would be a problem.

And, just for the record, everyone, I am so very, very insecure that I need a Vespa. Yep; buddy, you got me. Happy?

yes possible to do all of the above.

www.vespagarage.co.kr is a pretty good place.

if you're really serious you might want to import one in, you can get some really nice old models in s. asia. but vespas aren't cheap, and they're not exactly cheap when they break down either.

That vespa garage place is located North of Hyewha station (blue line -- North/Central Seoul). Head North out of Exit 1 for maybe 200 or 300 meters until you hit the bridge/Hyewha rotary. Turn right and it's about 100 meters up from that turn, on your left (North side of the road).

Cool, thanks for this. Do these places only have vintage Vespas? I scoured vespagarage and motoprime, but only seem to see vintage, oldschool scooters. I will hopefully be in Korea in a couple months and would be really interested in getting a modern vespa, but am beginning to think I'll have to import it in from Vietnam or something.

Hell, maybe I'll drive across country then try and import my Vespa accross the pacific to Korea (Just kidding, that would be crazy).

Just do a search for Vietnam Vespa, or just go here http://www.saigonscooters.com/. They restore old 60's Vespas and Lambrettas. Someone on another thread said there were getting one delivered to Korea for less than 2 million won total. The shipping they offer is supposedly very affordable.

Thanks Hollywoodaction - I actually want the opposite. I'd like to get a MODERN vespa, like a LX150 or GT. I scoured the webpages, and have yet to see a picture of either of those scooters over there.

I'm guessing you could import it from Vietnam but wondering if it would be cheaper just to import it from USA instead?

Will do - but just glanced at their website, didn't see anything that looked remotely new! We'll see what the guy has to say.

I'm really surprised there aren't more Vespas in Korea. There seems to be a decent following, judging by the looks of vespagarage.

I couldn't find anything 6 months ago when I was looking for Vespa's - and by that I mean newer models.

Daelim has a new Vespa clone model, although it's overpriced. Their Delfino model is a 100cc scooter similar to the ET4, and it's pretty good. I got mine for 800,000 won, used but with very low miles and in almost new shape. I ride it every day and it's never needed much beyond oil and gas and the odd wipe down on Sundays. I wish my old Vespa were that reliable.

I don't think you'll have much luck trying to get a newer Vespa from Viet Nam - they weren't sold there because of the economic sanctions following the war. I think the latest ones that are easily available are from the mid-1970's, and even they are drying up (I was there in August and diddn't see nearly as many around as there were six months earlier).

I haven't given up on getting an old Vespa. just haven't had the time to shop.

Give me a shout if/when you get here. I'm happy to talk to anyone about Italian scoots.

Will do SMW, but I might just be riding my Vespa when I see you! Haha, that is if all goes well. And you know how that usually ends up Wink

Anyways, I just bought a 2007 Vespa LX 150 (RED!) and would love to bring it to Korea come January. I'm trying to figure out ways to get it over there, i think i could ship it via boat for under 5 hondo, but it would take 2-3 weeks for delivery. Then dealing with customs, would be a pain in the butt.

Right on!

You might want to seriously reconsider shipping your sweet 2007 scoot here though. Aside from the Korean red tape ~ unbelievable, bureaucracy gone amok ~ your scoot could end up damaged (likely) or stolen (possible) depending where you are. That's why I left my '68 Sprint back in BC.

The Daelim website is http://www.dmc.co.kr/eng/delfino.asp

... so you can see what models they have, although their fake Vespa isn't on the page I think it's in their current catalog. There are other scoots too; I just lucked out with the Delfino.

Hmm, good point, but I do plan on bringing a ridiculous chain with it. If they can hack through it, they will deserve to take it. No seriously, while i would lock it up at all times, i didn't think theft of scooters was a big problem in Korea. I was just there in August, and was amazed to see people just leave their scooters unattended, unlocked, unattached, etc. Didn't seem like anyone really cared about getting their scoot taken.

I walked by Yonsei Univesity and saw a bunch of scooters next to the bike racks, without locks. I thought htis was pretty cool.

That Delfino is looks ok, it looks alot like the Piaggio Fly! I like the Vespa look the most, modern yet oldschool. Plus, the engines realy are quite peppy.

EDITED - I actually forgot about this model:

http://www.dmc.co.kr/eng/ns125.asp

I heard really good things about it, forget it was korean! I read a review a coupe weeks back raving about this thing. But still, its 125cc and looks pretty ordinary.
