I'm trying to prove my friend wrong who boldly stated that "Westerners don't like Korean food."


I'll nominate the old standard Sahm Gyup Sahl and soju.

I like it. Kimchi is delish.

삼겹살 is a good call but 돼지 갈비 is my favorite. 닭갈비 is always good and everybody likes a little 냉면 (the 비빔 sort, not the 물 stuff) sometimes. For breakfast I usually go for something like 된장찌개, although I good 김치찌개 can never go wrong. I also usually refer to 라볶이 as the food of the gods.

Hell, the list could go for a while. Just tell your friend that he's wrong.

Generally, I like it. But then, I am biased. I just like eating food.

Everything is good, particularly boshintang.

Two exceptions: anything with ddeok and pat-bing-su.

I wanted to eat the dog stew until i found out about the unbelievable cruelty. I like everything but live octopus and ddeok. but I can eat ddeok.

When i ask for a littl gochjjang, some restaurants seem astonished and will even try to talk me out of it.

i never met a kimchi that i didn't like. Even the old, fizzy stuff.

I like the food, but 90% of the side dishes leave a lot to be desired. I mean, a sole green pepper on a plate? Tasteless weeds and twigs?

But yeah, the food is good for the most part, even though quite clearly most of it is peasant food that tastes the same, it is okay.

I doubt, however, that like Chinese and Japanese food, you will ever find a place that serves up Korean cuisine. It is simple food, at best, but I like it, yeah.

I love Korean food.

Chicken galbi with cheese, pig galbi, sam-gyup-sal, bibimbap, bokuembap, dolsot bibimbap. Great. So many different kinds of food as well. I love kimbab, odeng, dok pogi, twe kim. Sun dae.

I will miss the food when I leave here (in a few days).

But ill be back for more (both the teaching AND the food).

Tons of excellent dishes to choose from.

It alsom goes well beyond the ole cliche of "it all tastes like red pepper paste"....

You have excellent soups.

Meat dishes.

Broths.

An astounding variety of fish dishes.

As for the side dishes...it depends where you eat.

The places I visit frequently offer varied side dishes.

I'm a pretty picky eater, but I enjoy how different countries take meat and do something different with it. I'm a HUGE fan of 갈비찜, 닭 갈비, 닭도리 탕...
