I didn't know anything about O'Reilly until his infamous interview on NPR's Fresh Air with Terry Gross.

They didn't even get to discuss O'reilly's book "Who's Looking Out For You?" because Ms. Gross was so intent on trying to catch O'Reilly in some kind of doublespeak. Uncle Bill walked off the interview after this exchange:

O'reilly:"Were you this hard on Al Franken when he was on your show?"
Ms Gross: "No, we had a different interview."
O'Reilly: "Why?"
Ms.Gross: "Because.... his book.... is a book of political satire."
O'Reilly: "oohhh, it's satire is it? Calling people liars is satire now? Is this Fresh Air?"

I was a big fan after that but my interest has since waned. After his sexual harassment lawsuit, it's impossible to take him seriously on moral issues but I definitely see eye to eye with him on the issues of illegal immigration (militarize the border), decriminalization of marijuana, income redistribution (low taxes).

Quote:

Did anybody see the dressing down Letterman gave him? It was like water off a duck's back.

I think you need to watch it again.
O'Reilly won the crowd over.

Letterman: "I'm not smart enough to debate this point to point with you."

Letterman: "I don't think you represent an objective viewpont... but i don't watch your show."

In 2003 (?) O'Reilly appeared on the C-SPAN book fair with Al Franken and Molly Ivins. His debate with Ivins is classic as is his verbal slap down to Al Franken ( the audience applauded him for that as well Smile )
good luck finding it.

Agreed, Bill O'Reilly made David Letterman look like a bigger a$s than usual. How anyone could read anything else into that interview is beyond me.

Oh, the whole "War on Christmas" nonsense was just a bunch BS Bill cooked up to make himself look important. Letterman called him on it.

Stolen from the 'letter from Iraq' thread:-

Biggest Outrage Practically anything said by talking heads on TV about the war in Iraq, not that I get to watch much TV. Their thoughts are consistently both grossly simplistic and politically slanted. Biggest Offender: Bill O'Reilly.

Bill O'Reilly has certainly come a long way since he played cricket for Australia in 1931.
