Now who do we contact in Canada to legislate this day? Will it be be a national holiday? Will we get together with family and friends or go global and have community events? What about a traditional dish/dishes for this day?

If I had to choose a religion I'd choose ancestor worship (in the Vietnamese style). It's awesome! You just set up a nice little altar for your ancestors and the kitchen god, then you just take care of it and keep it well stocked with stuff that you know that your dead loved ones and the kitchen god will get a kick out of. No-one tells you what to do or anything, you don't have to go to church or temple, etc. Ancestor worship is totally smooth.

So I agree. Canadians should be forced to celebrate chuseok.

Hmmm...as a small-town American boy, I remember Memorial Day. Although it seems to have been aimed at the war dead, as it is celebrated in my hometown, it includes everyone. The whole town cemetary gets decorated. There used to be a parade that involved the whole community. It was really a nice way to kick off summer vacation. (May 31?)

It's kind of faded out somewhat in recent years, but I think your idea would make a fine way to revive it. Please persue this idea.

Where I come from, we don't need to be reminded by a calendar to remember our ancestors.

I think Thanksgiving covers Chuseok just fine.

All we need to do to adopt Chuseok is to make the women work harder and force them to spend the holiday with their inlaws instead of having the choice to visit their families.

I mean, if I were going to adopt Chuseok, or any other holiday, I'd do it not because I feel there's something lacking in my life, or because I think it sounds nice, but because it resonates with me. If I feel moved to offer food to my departed ancestors one day a year, I ought to remember them all year long.

And I should hope I don't measure the lives of my friends out with calendars. "Oh, it's January 11! That means"---check the note written on my hand---"something about my brother . . . "
