|
So I've been in Korea since the 10th of September and the best lead I've gotten for finding a standup bass worthy of taking orchestral auditions on has been teh Nagwon Sang-ga in Seoul.
Unfortunately, it would appear from their website that they only sell bass guitars.
Any musicians out there know where to look to find a standup bass? I'm goin crazy here!!! HELP!
Thanks! |

There are a few at Nagwon if you go there.
Beyond that, in Seocho, up the hill before the concert hall on, on the right side, are a few classical instrument stores including at least two that sell double basses. |

Though the bass may come from both the viol and gamba family, a viola de gamba it is not. That's more akin to the cello than anything. |

hey, just out of curiosity, what are you planning on doing with this fish when you find one? Cuz, you know, my blues band could use something like that...
email me at [email protected] if you're interested in more information. |

Well, I'm planning on playing any kind of music I can while here:p This year it would mainly be small band stuff but I'm hoping to also speak with some of the bassists in the orchestras here to see what I can work out.
Also, can we keep the thread on topic? The jokes are funny (in that "My, that girder is sticking out of that guy's head... how funny!" kind of way) but I seriously do need to find a bass and have had no luck asking around with the people I know. For those of you who have dropped some tips, thanks! For those of you with the fish, GAH!
Thank ya! |

| nagwon market, which has been mentioned, is a good starting point. lots of different vendors, lots of different basses. go to Jongno-3-ga station, leave via exit 1 (Tapgol Park), walk straight until you see Tapgol Park (can't miss it, lots of old people, small park with a pagoda in it), take the road just past the park going right, there is a building that the road goes through, that's the one. go up the stairs on the side of the building and in the door. it also houses a movie theatre and a bank i believe. good luck! |

| Nagwon looks like a giant parking garage. Do not be deceived by appearances, it's in there. |
