This thread is about how awesome atheism is, and how it has the potential to lead to a life much more meaningful, rewarding, honest and moral than one informed by the imagined dictats of an imaginary friend in the sky.

First of all, I should say that technically I'm agnostic - that is, I can't rule out the remote possibility of the existence of some kind of god. However, practically I am an atheist. I'd bet my lunch that there are no supernatural explanations to the universe.

If you love being atheist, this thread is for you. If you're a bit on the fence, this thread is also for you! If you think that god is a real and true part of our lives, and loves and is watching us, this thread is also for you, because atheists have great senses of humour.

You don't have to completely rule out the hypothetical existence of a singular consciousness that created the universe to be an atheist. You just have to not believe in it, and it helps if you think religions are talking shiat.

I don't personally identify with the term, but I do appreciate atheists. However, I can't understand why an atheist organization would want the word "human" in its name ... maybe they'd get more members if they took it out?

What's the difference between being just lazy and agnostic? I like to say I'm agnostic, but actually I'm just too lazy to practice any form of religion.
That's not totally true, but there's enough to be true.

I voted 'no', Mr Kang. If someone put a gun to my head and made me choose "you can save the theists or save the atheists" I'd choose to save the latter. I don't like either party, but I hate atheists the least.

But - I will never, ever commit to atheism. Agnosticism til I die. Atheism requires the same leap of faith that I cannot give. I cannot say with even the remotest certainty that there is, or is not, a God.

I'm not an agnostic about afterlife/Heaven-and-Hell and stuff like that however. In those matters, I CAN say with certainty that I think the proposition there is no afterlife is correct. But God and the origin of the Universe - ain't got a clue.

I dunno what you mean by 'practically'. Basically, you're an atheist. It's about what YOU believe. Of course you can't say with certainty that there either is or is not a God - you cannot even say with certainty that there is anything beyond your sense data. Means bugger all. It's about what you believe, not what you feel you can say with certainty.

If,somehow presented with proof or existence of a god(The clouds part,giant forfinger extends..."Oi!!You!"),and you still said God didn't exist and you turned your back on it,what would that make you?

If God came to Earth, I feel confident that it would not be mad that I don't believe every word in the Bible. It's not a gamble to me, because in the off chance that happens, God wouldn't be bothered.
