being married with a baby on the way, a small part of me would like to see this whole north korea mess settled one way or another right now.
in the event of war, all i can be pretty confident of is that it would be a relatively short one, and that it would be the end of north korea. sure, it might also be the end of me (hence the larger part of me not wanting a war), but as long as i'm going to be raising a family in korea and planting myself some roots, it really would be nice not to have a constant threat looming indefinitely just a couple of kilometers from my doorstep.
is there anyone else out there who has been having any similar feelings? |

Ofcourse as a lifer I agree. I put down 60 million in jonsae on a villa and damn, Im sort of regretting that now. Id like to see this mess settled, hopefully peacefully, or atleast drag it out for 2 more years so that I can get my jonsae money back and hopefully be in position to be able to make money abroad, either in the US or Europe (not EFL related. Im never doing EFL teaching outside of Korea). If the US strikes Iran that might get them bogged down there for atleast 2 more years so that they cant hit NK.

It would be nice to have the situation resolved in some way. As others, I worry about my investments here (key money and such). I would not, however, want it resolved by war and subsequent dissolution of the NK state... mostly because I fear for my friends and family here. I and my wife and child, ultimately have an out... going to Canada. Losing physical things is nothing, in the end, but losing people would really hurt.
Let's hope for a resolution... but a peaceful one. |

Amen. Yes, same with my wife, we have a way out if worst comes to worst but her parentsm her family, people we know do not have such an out and it would be a tragedy. I really hope this can be resolved peacefully. 60,000 dollars is a lot, but its not so much that I wouldnt just chuick it all to save my neck and my wife. Its just money, not a big deal. But as you say, losing people, that would be terrible. |

| End of the world, sorry, I couldn't help it, but your post matches your user name quite well^^ Anyway, I wouldn't worry about it. Worrying doesn't help, and there's nothing you can do. Even if you move somewhere else, something could always crop up in the next country you live in.... |

Being a lifer (12+yrs) here (married and in the financial field) the mess with N. Korea will grow till the bubble pops.
It�s my opinion
No way will the US or Japan use the military option. Sanctions against Pyongyang will be used to bring down N. Korea. Everything now is �business as usual�, but the situation will change once the sanctions are in place. Once in place the situation for both Koreas will get worst, till the North breaks.
Living in any foreign country you need to have a current �Exit Plan�
My Plan is
Have all documents reviewed and ready for travel.
Small amount of cash and international ATM and VISA cards with my documents.
Pre coordinated plan to meet family members in Deagu/ Busan or even Japan. (The US Military will evacuate most of the military personnel and foreigners to Japan).
The military stand off in 1994 was far worst then this situation. Then the US/ S Korea strike was just a phone call away. In this situation we all have time to prepare if something bad happens. Don�t worry so much and get prepared. You will feel better. |
