Can someone explain to me why Korean universities are so unprofessional? Is it normal that they never reply to a question? I sent my documents to apply for a job and wanted them to clarify that I had sent the correct documents since they wrote some things that were not clear. For example they stated in the ad to send a resume and a CV. Since a resume and a CV is the same thing, I wanted to know whether this was a mistake or whether they wanted another document. It has been three days since Chusok has been over and still no reply.
What do you think? |

I think you need to relax or you'll never get through the interview, let alone a staff meeting. |

Should we just change this to "Koreans (Unprofessional)"? |

You may have just done it. I hope not, though. |

That must be the problem. There are no staff meetings at the university where I am currently employed. |

There are staff meetings. You are just not invited. |

I hope that was a joke. The staff here consist of one Korean TOEIC teacher, the office manager, and two foreign English teachers. Since we pick the books and our boss does not really do anything besides his TOEIC classes, I am not really sure what one would even need to meet for.
I am sure there are staff meetings for other parts of the university but within the department, I doubt you could classify anything as a staff meeting. |

JZer,
Take it easy.
Did you confirm with the department that they received your documents (a phone call would be nice here).
Also why pass judgement on the entire university based on some un replied to mail???
3 days and counting in Chusok...come on this is not a long time. Also, they might be waiting to gather more Resumes before starting to reply to applicants. They might be screening and have a policy of : only selected applicants will be contacted. This happens with more and more employers the world over these days (I do not like it either but thats life man).
I would suggest you call the HR department or the English Department and talk to the person in charge of hiring (his or her name must have been on the ad).
Also, if this is a smaller college (maybe not a full university), they might be understaffed or take longer to reply.
At any rate, getting irate will not be the best way to land a job at this university..... |

I was not counting Chusok. I starting counting on Monday when everyone should have already been back to work.

This is just one example which includes my current job, other people I know, and my current job search. So this transcends the university I was talking about and that is also why I didn't mention the name of that university. |

the point is that I was just asking a question due to the fact that the universities ad was confusing. I guess I will try to call them tomorrow. |

There could be any number of reasons that you haven't been contacted yet. The staff involved in the hiring process may be busy (as in teaching!). The hiring committe may meet once a week...say on a Friday...and respond to all mail at that time. Maybe the person in charge had a death in the family, is still on vacation or had a family emergency.
Or maybe they just don't want you!! |

There is the possibility they looked over your documents and decided you did not fit their needs. In such a case they would not contact you at all.
As I said, more and more employers are using such a policy when hiring: only those selected for an interview will be contacted.
I still think 3 days is nothing. Give it time. |

3 days in Korean university time is zilch. Some universities take weeks or even MONTHS to start filtering applications. |
