i have an open class coming up and we are going to use a 30 second movie clip for an introduction. the lesson topic is the difference of "going to" and "will" (going to-the decision was already made, will-the decision was just made)
one clip with both, or two separate clips showing their differences are ok. now i have to find those clips. has anyone done something like this and has an idea of a clip to use? i really dont want to watch a few movies looking for a good clip. this could get frustrating and boring. any help? ideally a funny movie/section would be good.

thanks

Well, take a look at this clip:

RIGHT HERE!

Maybe it's not what you're looking for, but it's easy to follow and could be used for a number of fun and interesting projects.

Cheers.

Last week I used movie trailers for my conversation class, they are short and complete. Check out the listing at: http://www.apple.com/trailers/

The kids I had loved watching the horror trailers, also currently there is also a big Chinese movie with some Korean actors in it, which interested them too.

That sounds interesting. Would you care to share your lesson plan?
Did you ask them questions about the clips or did they describe what is happening?

I did it free style. It is a 8 student high school conversation class. I wish I had planned more (it was a last minute class) but...

First, I had the kids write down every English word they heard and understood. Then we discussed what they didn't know, vocabulary wise-meaning etc. We re-watched a lot of the clips a few times to listen to the harder parts, to practice listening.

Then we figured out the movie scenario, who, what, where, when, why.

Finally I had a list of questions they could answer, like "Would you go see this movie, why or why not?" "Do you like this type of movie?" "What did you like or dislike?" "What do you think this movie is about?" "Who do you think this movie is for?" etc. etc.

It really got everyone pumped up, they forgot they were speaking English for a little while...I let the conversation go into rabbit trails, bc a lot of interesting topics came up. For instance with horror movies, there are a lot of American Japanese remakes out right now, so we talked about Korean horror vs. rest of the world horror, why and how it is different
