and I've come across this rather, unfortunate "we must diet" article.
I don't feel right about completely changing what she says.
But I can't imagine letting this totalyl slide.
So I think that I'm going to write a little article...."From the Waygook"....to set that crap straight. |

| Could you quote it here in its original form? No names, just let us read it. Could be a grimly interesting insight into their world. |

God damn women in this country are crazy about weight. Apparently the character Rose from Doctor Who was unpopular here because all the girls thought she was too chunky for the role.
And the thing is, it's only women doing this. Most men don't give a christ, and the ones that do deserve a bitchslap. |

That they are. It doesn't seem to matter how attractive and fit the K-girl, every one of them seems to believe they need to lose weight (in my experience, anyway). |

Actually, some of them could use a good head shrinking. |

It's annoying isn't it? I've been teaching an English for Academic Purposes class, and part of the speaking assessment is the presentation of a short seminar on an academic/technical topic. So, of course, one of the Korean girls, despite being advised not to, presents a ten minute seminar on 'Correct Diet Method'. All her content was more or less just translated from some Korean women's website, and she ended up getting a very poor grade.
But my advice? Run the story alongside pictures of anorexia victims.
It'll be funny. |

Good thing that women back in the West don't care about that. |

ha! now that would be some satire. The best kind of satire always leads to the ruinous downfall of those who actually take it seriously. |

| thiss issue is dealt with in If You Were Me a film sactioned by the human rights commission of korea which is basically 6 small filmms documenting social ills in korea. one of them is dedicated to the obsession young women have with being slim or to be more accurate the pressure society puts on them to be thin. |

I dont think the problem is anyway near as severe in the west as it is in korea. as ive had it explained to me you cant do didley squat in korea if you are perceived as overweight (for females anyway).

I think this is all you can do.
BIG heads:
A couple of years ago when I was working with adults, the guys divided themselves into jo-koo teams depending on head size. Big Heads vs Small Heads. I thought that was a creative way to randomize team selection. |

Question: is it better to be fat... or thin and worried about your weight? It's a bit excessive with all the girls dieting there in Korea, however it must be more healthy than the abundance of overweight people in the States and to a lesser degree Canada. Both suck I guess...
Oh and guys in Korea can be on the dieting thing as well. My male boss (30 years old) was on the "eat nothing one day of every week diet" he was not fat at all. He also called me fat and said I should do it with him. He was a nice enough guy so I told him I was 206 pounds and inside the proper weight range for my height, 189cm. He seemed to ignore that I was tall and focused on my weight.
"No! No! HAHAHA! 206 pounds woooooo, that 92kg?? HAHAHA! You fat! HAHA! We go on diet! HAHAHA! You eating lots of food!"
Good times. |
