If someone wants to deny the holocaust or the Armenian genocide, and that person is prosecuted for making such statements then it violates the ideas of Voltaire, who was a proponent of freedom-of-speech. Many in Europe blasted Muslims for their reaction to the cartoons depicting their prophet, and we see France will put someone in jail for denying the holocaust. At any rate, where are the arrests of the French connected with massacring so many Algerians in Algeria's War of Independence? It seems to me, as much as I like France, this is hypocritical. France has not come clean with its atrocities in Africa, so the Republic is not in a position to criticize Turkey. The Turks also state, correctly, that many Turkish civilians were ethnic cleansed by the Armenian forces, but I do believe far more Armenians got killed in the conflict in what amounted to massive revenge killings.

On another note, the European Union criticizes Turkey for taking to trial people who criticize "Turkishness" as a violationg of freedom of speech.
Where is Europe's criticism of France? They are holding Turkey to a standard that is not followed in France.

OK, sure. I suppose you could add complicity in Rwanda 1994 genocide to your list of examples, for sure the french are not whiter that white.

Though it is only political gamesmanship, to some extent i find it amusing, if only because Turkey really should be coming clean about this almost a century later. Its a particularly gallic way to wind people up.
