Drinking Diet Coke straight from the liter bottle, listening to Sam Phillip's wonderfully witty song Compulsive Gambler, and about to head off to my three hour teaching session today.
(In the process of typing the song has switched to Simon & Garfunkel's The Only Living Boy in NY; I guess that one's going out to Flotsam.) |

Ah I see. What does 'research paper' mean in the context of US education? Here if I was to say I was working on a research paper it would mean that I was actually carrying out research and writing it up - is that right for you? Or is it more like a literature review? Or summary of theory and practice? |

My, aren't we the inquisitive one today.
Interesting question. I take it, by the wording of your first question, that you weren't educated in the U.S.?
When I say "research" I mean that I am handing out surveys and collecting data. I will use this data to reinforce or debunk my "theory" that the usage of Technology within an ESL/EFL setting is more beneficial than detrimental to one's language acquisition. Furthermore, I'll be looking up works done by various departments from various universities and citing those that either support or derail my argument. Unfortunately, I agree with both sides of the argument. However, I am being forced to take a stance.
Don't know if what I am doing has a technical name or not. It'll have a mix of almost all of the things you mentioned above. |
