Hey all,

So I am getting ready to leave and been sorting through threads about accomodations during the job search. I see that the backpackers comes highly recommended. I am also considering yeogwan to get me started. I've read that most of them are pay by the hour type of places, but my guide book says that good ones are available in Insa-dong. However, the guide book is 10 years out of date. Anyone have the scoop on yeogwans in Insa-dong? Clean? Cheap? Good for someone fresh off the boat getting themselves situated?

Thanks,
Michael

I stayed in a yeogwan behind Insa-Dong for 4 months last year. Yeogwans around that area are typically run down, and quite seedy. I ended up getting (nearly) attacked in mine. Rates run from 400,000 to 900,000 per month in that area. You should check my link below, 'cus I just put up a video about Goshiwons - an accommodation option which is half the cost of a yeogwan and much cleaner; it's typically for students, but anyone can stay in one. I certainly rank central Seoul yeogwans and backpacker inns well below Goshiwons. A Goshiwon is the best option for a month or two until you can hopefully get decent accommodation through your employer.

How to find one as a newbie? Just ask the airport tourist desk staff if they can locate one for you - just specify an area first. They are more commonly found directly around universities.
