So, since I finally got photoshop I've been wasting time that should be spent on schoolwork making animated 'whither' emoticons. What's that? As far as I know the concept goes back to post 9/11 days on the somethingawful.com forums (where I am an occasional poster). Users that wanted to express 9/11 related emotions (ironically or not) could use as a shortcut the following gif, titled nevarforget.gif:

Since then, somethingawful forums users have created animated gifs for a whole heap of other countries. The principle is pretty simple - just a small picture of the flag, with a national icon superimposed, and an animated single tear falling. Emoticons for other countries made by somethingawful users include Canada featuring the beaver , the UK featuring the bulldog , and Denmark featuring Lego . Plus a whole bunch more.

So I thought it might be fun to try making them myself, and it turns out it's not too hard. Here are my attempts:

Vietnam, featuring Ho Chi Minh

South Korea, featuring Roh Mu Hyun

North Korea, featuring Kim Jong Il

The Phillippines, featuring Imelda Marcos

New Zealand, featuring Helen Clark

Australia, featuring a koala with chlamydia

and Saudi Arabia, featuring a syphallitic camel

If anybody has any requests for other countries, or would like different versions - Australians may prefer Steve Irwin to a koala with chlamydia, for example - let me know and I'll see what I can do.

Unfortunately, this board doesn't allow users to upload their own emoticons as on others but if you want to use any of these, just copy them off this page using right click save image as... then host with a regular file hosting service (I recommend fileanchor). Alternatively, you can just right click for properties and image leech the files from my hosting. Up to you.

... what has happened to my life?

I like how most of the countries you did get weeping politicians, but Australia gets a koala. Kind of appropriate I guess, considering the muppet-looking fellow who runs the place is almost as sharp as one.

Just thought it was funny.

(Though I see Saudi Arabia also got an animal with a venereal disease)

they're not countries, but perhaps a "Wither Texas?" with a crying Sam Houston for the next time Texas is victimised in a thread, or a "Wither the U.N.?" with a crying Ban Ki-moon for the next time international law is violated in a thread.

Whither, this girl:

I've never seen someone doing something so goofy seem so hot.

But seriously, I would ask for "Whither, the Mauryan Dynasty?" But I'll settle for Burma if you aren't up to the challenge.

First, I meant that I will call Burma 'Myanmar' over my dead body. Second, yes, I found Mauryan images, but it's just not the same as having a nice modern flag to start with. Fine though, I'll give it a shot.

AWESOME!!

I want tears falling from the happy human on the right end of mine.

"Whither, cosmopolitanism?"

The lions thing is pretty cool though.

Also, could you do one with Muhammad? (J/K)
