You know what really grinds my gears? The 3 minutes that Andy Rooney is on the tube at the end of 60 minutes. I don't know enough to know why he still has that spot....all I know is that I usually watch it, probably as some form of self punishment, and shake my head. However, tonight I was actully not annoyed......

From what I recall of it (it was playing in the background while I was posting...) he was criticising America's right to deny others the right to develop nuclear weapons while being unwilling to give up its own nuclear arsenal. I think that he was urging universal nuclear disarmament with no exceptions, but I don't think that's at all likely to happen until after a nuclear world war wipes out all the major cities of the world, and better leaders emerge from the 30% or so people who survive it ... |

You know what really grinds my gears? That CBS is so afraid of being labelled whatever the right-wingers label television networks (see the comments on that page) that they completely misrepresented what Rooney actually said. Here's their take:
"Andy Rooney discusses North Korea's nuclear test and argues that the United Nations should take a greater role in disarming the communist nation."
They skipped the part about, "if NK can't have them, the US shouldn't have nukes either". |

I agree, so pitiful how the networks dance around things.
I have posted in the past, several comments about the Irish Jew (as I call him) Rooney. He almost always does it for me, without exception and I am glad he doesn't cowtow and that he demands that basic inherent right to say it like it is.......intelligently, not in the dumbya way.
Chapeau , hats off to Rooney. He is right about the nuclear issue and there is no way in hell one can do and then tell everyone else, no you can't....

I always rather liked Andy. Always thought he'd be an entertaining guy to go out with for a beer. |
