Faulty reasoning, Junior. Back in the day, there were few hagwons, thus the overall level of teachers was higher since they could be far more selective. Also, the hagwons were BETTER. Back in the day, they actually thought they had to ahve the best program to get the students. They no longer believe that. The huge number of hagwons has forced nearly all to throw out quality in favor of marketing gimmicks.

Bah... I expected omprovement over time, not this cesspool.

I see all current events posts older than 2005 have been archived/ deleted, so we can't really check the high level of intellect in them anyway.

I presume the era which the OP is thinking of featured the likes of CPA, Captain obvious, weatherman, Denz, and presumably the tireless Joo rip.

The only gripe i have about CE forum now is that people are rapidly posting multiple threads that don't stick because nobody's interested...and that nobody ever seems to change their extreme positions on the same basic topics.

No it doesn't. You are just whining without offering anything like what you claim to want.

yata--- go through some of my posts. I've almost always been a productive member of this board. There's no whining, but rather lamenting. If you don't know or understand the distinction you should not be teaching english.

I don't flame, I post non-biggoted posts, none of my threads has ever been locked by a moderator, and all the things I criticize in the OP I don't do.

I've lived up to my end. I used to run a major board in Canada, I know how things work. If you disagree, all of my posts are available, go through them. Or, you can continue to attack me, and essentially make my original point for me.

Why isn't there an emoticon for yawning?

Had I gone back through your posts I would have found this bit of enlightening contribution:

Quote:
in order to worry about reality, one first must grasp it....

I suggest you start at trying to do that, and then you may want to start worrying about it.

Yes, I can see how that is significantly superior to the posts that usually appear here. I stand corrected.

I don't really care about this, but here's a quick and final retort:

1. I never claimed to be perfect, that's why there;s the quote above.

2. citing the exception isn't proof.

3. you've once again made my point for me... read the entire post and or that thread and you get the context of that quote. In my OP I said that the level of evidence and arguments offered are low, and almost always imcomplete. Citing wikipedia isn;t good discussion, nor is citing one comment out of context... I gave you the opportunity to call me on whatever it is that you think you're calling me on. if you're not going to take it, fine, but leave me alone.

I rarely particpate in the CE forum anymore since it's turned in to the Muslim vs. Jew page. 80% of the posts are either related to that or BushCo. and it's just the same stuff all the time. Big_Bird loves to bring in new anti-Bush articles. I just picture her giggling maniacally everytime she finds one to link to.

The only thing that really bugs me is Nambu's lockdown of anything that "appears" racist or if people stop saying please and thank you when posting.

I don't either. I think it is quite clear that your intervention is most even-handed and judicious...

Maybe this is a fine example of the deterioration of this board........a guy comes on and quotes this, believing it. When in fact Octavius wrote it in finely wrot satire.........

A fine example of who the retard is -- one who doesn't ever seek context and just spews, moos and never has paid his dues...

There are oceans of difference, of course, between, on the one hand, attacking someone's undeniably extremist views and/or using their own posts and, indeed, patterns of posts and op-ed selection to make his or her case (and make no mistake, this is exactly how I have responded to you in the past, as I have little patience for the propaganda you peddle here) and, on the other hand, inventing stories and fabricating dialogs or creating other ficticious petty details like the examplars I selected above from this very thread (and I will not go back on the Tyson thread where you had a homosexual rapist violently attacking me in one of your cruder fantasy-responses). We call the former "argument," heated, certainly, but argument nonetheless.

What you (and the other one, on the other thread, whose hysteria you share) have done here is little more than make a very crude straw man of me and then ridicule it. Conversely, all I ever need to do to make my points about you and your position is to quote you, that is quote your real words...

I regret that you are unable to comprehend the difference between the two, or recognize how you crossed the line of propriety in exchanges of views. But I am not really surprised.

In any case, congratulations for your "accomplishment." Frame it, do whatever you please with it, have your day. Come back with yet another witty response punctuated with unrestrained emotionalism and multiple exclamation points. Do whatever it is that you do.

_______________

Why has this forum strayed so far? This assumes that, once upon a time, enlightened discourse graced its pages. Somehow I doubt that.

However this may be, my own feeling is that it has become dominated by people on self-appointed propaganda missions which include but are not limited to the following: antiZionism, antisemitism, antiMuslimism/aka Orientalism, antiChristianism, antiatheism, "there is a malicious U.S.-orchestrated conspiracy behind all that is wrong in the world," "W. Bush is antichrist and has made the United States a veritable police state," "Canada is morally superior to the United States" -- and others. People bicker over religion and Darwinism for eighty-five pages (and counting).

My own descent into this nonsense (and I have no one to blame but myself, really) came about gradually, as a reaction to the hyperbole that had W. Bush consciously and deliberately destroying New Orleans because he didn't like blacks, or that had W. Bush laughing at and enjoying news about dead American soldiers in Iraq, etc. Like another poster said somewhere else: I never voted for W. Bush; indeed, I opposed and oppose him. But something about the way Big_Bird and others talk about (and, yes, sneer at) him makes me want to defend him.

I do not claim to be without biases or in possession of some Olympian perspective. I did, however, come here to exchange views -- professionally and dispassionately. I count as among my best successes in this regard the Athenian Democracy thread or the thread, so long ago, that treated a footprint that might have established an earlier population of the Americas than currently believed. I believe that the participation and exchanges of views that took place between myself, Kuros, Ya-ta Boy, and Manner of Speaking were a nice example of how things might work here.

Unfortunately, however, pettiness and an impenetrable, entrenched density in the obstinate minds of some here, reign these lands.

No, you are a fine example of the deterioration of this board. A guy comes on here and posts essentially the same exact thing as OH (although not as clever or painstakingly written) and because it makes fun of you and those who think like you it's "everything that is wrong with this board."

You're a moron. You're a plain, simple, moron with bad writing skills and elementary-level grammar.

I smell a lockdown coming. We'll see if this thread is either a) locked by the time I come home tonight or b) straight up deleted. Which will it be Nambu?

Captain America,

I just read your other reply from a previous thread....

Quote:
I don't mind the bee-keeper suits. I mind the people that require their women to wear the bee-keeper suits.

I think it speaks volumes about your intellect and tolerance of other faiths and beliefs (guaranteed under the constitution mind you). Your ignorance and plain mid-western, golly shucks gee, bee suit , forrest gumpism is exactly what America doesn't need. You don't make it shine.
