|
|
Does anyone have any suggestions for plays to be performed by 4th year English majors?
We're trying to put together a list of possible plays that could be performed in the Spring semester.
It looks like we're going to stay away from Shakespeare and aim for something that hasn't been already done in the Department.
One suggestion has been, "The Rover."
Has anyone had experience working with students on plays and able to offer some info/tips/suggestions?
Thanks. |

I'm a drama teacher / major so I may be able to help. Are you looking for comedy, tragedy, romance, historical...? Are these adult students? What are the curriculum expectations, if any? Who's the audience? |

How many students are there in the cast. Are you looking for a comedy, drama, satire... Are you looking for a modern text, or perhaps an ancient Greek text? The Greek comedies are hilarious, and well worth a look into. What sort of support will you have? ie. sets, props, space. How long of a play are you looking for?
If you want, you can pm me, and we can discuss in other ways, rather than through a board. I was a theatre major, and performed many styles of plays. |

Find an online copy of The Cherry Orchard. I did it during my 2nd year of university and it went very well. |

If you have a big cast, Our Town is good. Not to complex, simple sets. But you would need at least 15 people to pull it off. |

I always wanted to see a Korean performance of Glengarry Glen Ross. The play's themes should strike a cord with the Korean business ethic. |

Thank you very much for the useful suggestions and good questions that we should be asking.
However, it now appears that we are finally on our way to having it all sorted out in terms of the kind of play we hope to do.
Thanks again! |

'Death of a Salesman' would also have interesting cultural resonances. |

True that. It'd be awesome to see a beaten old ajoshi play Willy Loman...pretty much all the pieces would fit. |
