A worthy cause no doubt. Its good that celebs are increasingly involved in charity work.
It does seem that high profile stuff like this extends their status and enables them to recreate themselves. It also garners attention for stars I would call mediocre. Eg I don't think Bob Geldof was much of a name until Live Aid launched him into immortality. i also wish they'd give more to charities trying to protect wildlife and our environment. I mean human issues are irrelevant if we have no secure environment to live in.

Bono bets on Red to battle Aids
By Tim Weber
Business Editor, BBC News website, in Davos
The rock star Bono has launched a new global brand, Product Red, with a share of profits to go to the fight against Aids in Africa.
Launch partners American Express, Gap, Converse and Giorgio Armani announced a range of "red" branded products.
These will include T-shirts, footwear, sunglasses and a credit card.
The hope is that profits from the venture will generate a "sustainable" flow of money to support the Global Fund to Fight Aids, TB and Malaria. |

I am very pleased to see him use his celebrity to bring attention to this very serious matter.
I also thought I'd post this related slideshow from The Guardian:slideshow |

I don't really understand why bono is derided as often as he is. At LEAST he's doing something...and he's being vocal about it.
good on 'im says me. |

I guess its his fragile ego and aspirations for sainthood. Or maybe the sight of him forcing a whole village of starving people in the middle of nowhere to sing "sunday bloody sunday".
Best celeb was Kim Basinger & Alec Baldwins crusade to save Parrots in the Amazon. Before they divorced of course. |
