Hey, I just got a computer and now I am worried about going on porn websites. I have heard porn is illegal here. Does that mean my ISP might be monitoring my internet use? Might I be arrested for looking at porn? Has anyone every heard of someone being arrested for porn?

This should put your mind at ease: Koreans are among the biggest surfers of porn in Asia. |

I would find it really hard to believe considering the size of the sex industry in this country. |

The major Internet providers (ie: KT) get presented with a list of sites from the relative "authorities" about once a year which they agree to block from all customers. These sites are usually just random porn sites based outside Korea but featuring Korean "actors" (for lack of a better word). There are far too many of these sites to block them all. Any sites you can access on your computer are fair game (unless, of course, they're blatantly illegal..... ie: kiddie porn) and in no way will you find yourself in trouble for viewing them. |

I disagree. Maybe if there was more porn there'd be less money going into prostitution. |

Many times you will meet this message
However, as JT said, it doesn't bar access to all of them... |

I haven't had any trouble or any contact whatsoever about it from legal authorities or my internet provider. Unless I've been extremely lucky, I'd say They don't watch for that and you have nothing to worry about.

Shhh! You're a foreigner (I assume)- you're not supposed to know about that! All Korean women are virginal until marriage!

tiger fancini, just go to www.proxy.org
Actually, they are lying when they claim the system is needed (I stand behind the "it's the parents responsibility" argument and question the need for censorship in a free society). Blocking foreign porn sites is just a pretext to excercise further control the Korean internet. The thing is, I get a similar message from my internet provider whenever I try to log into legitimate sites, such as speedns.com (everything on that site is legal to import in Korea). They, Korean corporations and the governement (whatever, they're all related...literally), simply don't want the competition. |

You should be very careful. Porn is very illlegal here. If you even start tying a porn address into your browser, it's likely you'll end up in jail. |
