I am in contract negotiations with a school right now. They have been great, very friendly and seem really interested in getting me to work at their school. They sent me their contract, which was vague and missing a lot of details like vacation time, pension, health insurance etc. So I took a big red pen to it and made a bunch of amendments. The school immediately revised their contract to grant practically all of my amendments including enrolling me in National Pension and NHIC (they origailly omitted pension and wanted to enroll me in AIG). So my question is, why weren't these items in the contract to begin with? Seems like pension, vacation and NHIC are standard, so were they just hoping to get away with not doing these things and hoping I wouldn't notice? Also, should I be wary? The school was quick to make changes, and reworded their contract just and I suggested (from suggestions I got from this site) so do I have to worry about the school not following the contract once I arrive? Like sure they say they'll pay pension and NHIC, but will they?? I'm just feeling a bit wary as I am a newbie and they are using my verbiage in their contract and maybe I was thinking most of this stuff should have been in the contract in the first place???
What do you think?? Am I just being paranoid?? |

I would worry. I would ask them for email addresses and phone number of current and formal teachers and actually talk to them and find out what the scoop is with the school and its director. |

well the girl who did the interview is a current teacher and has been for 5 years, the director lets her handle the interviews as she is from NZ and thus speaks english. Another teacher there has been their for 2 years+ I was told, so I thought that was a good sign, a school that can retain teachers for more than one year? |

If this Kiwi girl who interviewed you had a gun pointed to her head by the school director, she would say any and everything to get you to say "Yes." So ask for more emails and phone numbers of former and current teachers. |

First off, NHIC is a rip off. I'd have to go to the doctors every day I was in Korea for it to be cost effective for me.
Secondly, It may be to your advantage to not pay pension. But I won't tell you why.
Third, be wary about everything, all the time. |
