Hello, I am in need of some art supplies. Specifically oil paint in large tubes as well as brushes, all sizes, for oil paint, good quality.

If anyone knows of any shops in Seoul or better yet Cheonan I would be very grateful for the information. If anyone knows of any websites that I could order from that would be great too.

Thanks.

Go to Insadong Street. I think I remember seeing a couple of shops there. If you don't see any, the artists there will point you in the right direction.

Alpha Art Supply store in Namdaemun market has everything you could possibly want. Take the entrance near Hwehyon Stn. (sp?) Keep on that road, take the last left before the end of the market. There's a huge display of ginseng in jars right on that corner. You'll see Alpha up on the right, it has a yellow sign.

Take a basket upon entering. On each floor you bring what you want to a clerk and they give you a slip of paper. Once you have finished your shopping, go down to the first floor to pay.

Thank you so much for the information. Alpha sounds like a great store, the detail was great, it is very helpful.

Thanks again! Smile

Ditto on Alpha, though I find their inventory a little strange at times. You can get really high quality thing for quite cheap, and then pay an arm and a leg for really cheap stuff. You can get high quality pastels for example, but then the paper selection leaves a bit to be desired quality and variety-wise (for example). Anyway, great store though. If you want to click through some random links on their page before making the trek here is their art supplies page (beware, does not work in Firefox). There are Alpha stores all over the place but the small ones mostly stock only stationary supplies.

The alpha in Namdaemun is excellent for painting supplies. They have a large selection of different paints and brushes. They also have a selection of other materials for a variety of media. Don't bother going to the other Alphas in teh chain that you find all around Seoul, most of them are just stationairy stores (unless that's what you're looking for). Making the trek to the Namdaemun location is worth it.

I enjoy the student store in Hongik University (Hongdae) They have a huge amount of art supplies for a good price. The store is located on the 1st floor in the building on the left side of the main arch. Easy to find
