ok, so I am a private tutor in the states for a married couple. Both very nice and I have been doing conversation tutoring with them for over a month now, but the process always leaves me worn out! They are enthuiastic about wanting me to be there to help them out, but I feel like I am the one brining up all the conversation. Every once in a while, I try to let there be a quiet period so that they can ask something, but they never do. What can I do to help this go more smoothly? I did so much better with the last guy I tutored because he was much more talkative.

This is what I do for some of my teachers class when I feel a conversation needs to be facilitated. I type up about ten questions based on a theme. For example "Death and Dying" "Driving". Then I give them about 15 minutes or what not to answer them. I tell them not to use full sentences. Then we discuss them. So in your case I would use five questions that they obviously won't have the same answers for.

How are their question-making abilities? It could be you need to give some lessons in how to form questions.

At a basic level you could do this. Give them the words:

Where
When
Who
Which
Why

and get them to make questions on a topic.
